Generator Questions |

Folks,
Last year we were without power for 12 days post Helene, so I am finally motivated to get a generator. I would love any advice you can share.
House is all electric. I assume this mandates a gasoline powered portable. Assumption: no one in their right mind would install propane just to run a whole house generator?
Power requirements are a well pump, portable or window unit AC, refrigerator, lights, and other small misc consumers. Obviously we won't run the heat pump.
I'm in the mood to buy the best. Does anyone have this model from Northern Tool? https://www.northerntool.com/products/ge...fi-5867287 and if so, has the experience been good? What other brands are worth considering?
Thanks,
Mark

I saw this today. Rob is a class act and I wish LV well as they navigate through this tariff forest. I still can't make any sense of why in the world Canada is now deemed to be an adversary of the US. I'll continue to support LV with my business, happily.
We live in interesting times.
No doubt you are aware of some of the recent changes in global duty rates. Some changed as recently as today and are probably subject to future changes as well.
With an integrated North American supply chain, we stock and receive goods in both Canada and the USA and may ship from whichever location gets your goods to you the fastest.
Today, the trade climate makes it virtually impossible to determine the real current or future delivered costs of many goods. Prices are unstable and will apparently remain so for some time.
You can be confident that we will continuously work in your interest to keep all costs as low as possible. This may mean some products will become unavailable in the short term, as we do not want to “lock in” high duty rates. At the same time, every business will have to pass on costs as they incur them, and orders placed months ago under different conditions are arriving now. In addition to duty changes, we are receiving significant vendor price increases every day.
It seems that not that long ago we were able to print prices in a catalog and hold them for a full year; today, they age out before the press stops running.
No matter what the future brings, rest assured we always have your interests in mind. Keep hanging in there – the ride has to come to an end sometime!
Cheers,
Robin Lee

convert 5/8 to 7/8 ok? |

I know there are sleeve adaptors to convert a 5/8" motor shaft to 7/8", but are there any long term concerns with doing this?
I'm shopping for a 1.5hp motor, single phase 230v, with a 7/8" shaft to drive an old Craftsman planer and some used models I come across have all the right specs but with a 5/8" shaft.
The fan blade on the old motor I have is shot and it can't be replaced. If I were to find a replacement I'd have to get it professionally serviced because this motor is balanced. The cost of the service will probably run close to just replacing the motor.

Alternatives to DNA for Clean-up of Equipment |

Question for the finishing guys. I think all are aware that de-natured alcohol is not available in CA. I like to use de-waxed shellac as a sealer and I am looking for alternatives just for cleaning my brushes and spray equipment (i.e., not for thinning or mixing). I know I can probably get away with grain alcohol, but what about isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol or Goof-Off (i.e. acetone). Anyone have any experience with these alternatives – again just for cleaning up? Thanks
