  Anyone build a grill cabinet?
Posted by: jteneyck - 07-30-2015, 04:11 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (5)

Sometimes wood framed, 2x4's usually, but most I have seen are brick, block, stone, cement, or something similar. I just roll out the grill and go, so I'm not sure if that is just the "in" thing to do, or if it really goes deeper to making it less of a fire hazard.

For technical input I would suggest a PM to Greg "2beast" he is the outdoor living space guru.

  flag case glass

Haven't done it in ages but doing it myself was fairly easy. Go to the borg and get glass and a glass cutter tool (maybe $5.00?). Score and snap.

  Table Top Recommendation Needed
Posted by: lift mechanic - 07-30-2015, 01:52 PM - Forum: Finishing - Replies (7)

Arm-R-Seal is very nice but I think others have said you can't get it in CA so, with that in mind, I think you need to look at waterborne products. You might consider General Finishes EnduroVar. You can't wipe it on, or at least I don't think you can but I'm often wrong so...., but you can apply it with a foam brush or spray. I've done some reasonably large panels with a foam brush and they came out very nice. I can't say I've ever tried doing some as large as a table top by hand though. I spray most of the time.

EnduroVar should be available in CA and it is very durable. Make sure your stain has dried for at least 72 hours before applying EnduroVar to it. It wouldn't hurt to spray a light sealer coat of Zinsser rattle can shellac on it first to make sure there are no bonding issues.

  Cupping After Resawing
Posted by: brnhornt - 07-30-2015, 08:31 AM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (6)

I'd be surprised if it didn't cup.
Air-dried less of a problem but the re-saw cup is typical.
& typically you re-saw over size, let the stuff gestate and then mill to net.
Could be days or weeks later before the material equilibrates.

I would also start with the pressure washer but cedar is very soft and very prone to being torn up. Start far away and probably end up sanding it all in the end. Good thing is you can treat it with a coat of ready seal when done and it'll look great.
Ready seal has been the best stuff I have used for years and I just saw that depot is carrying it. It used to only be available at supply houses.
