I have both centers, but use the second almost exclusively. I can get closer to the center when cutting close to it.
Get the second one.

Dam around water heater and sump pump |

I don't know what your basement layout is but if you are seriously considering a dam, you should form and pour a proper curb. Make it wide enough that you can frame a wall on it if you want to later. It will be easier than laying multiple courses of bricks.

Add height to my Roubo workbench |

Instead of raising the bench, I would build some outfeed rollers you can put on your bench; changing the bench height that much will negatively affect how you use it for it's intended purpose, assuming you built the bench for optimal height in the first place.

Bottle stopper finish blunder....how to fix |

HUT is a shellac and wax mixture. You might try wiping with denatured alcohol. If you get rid of the wax part, shellac won't hurt any subsequent finish you apply. You may also want to cross post your question to the Finishing Forum. A lot smarter folks than I am about finishing hang out there.

Joe
It does work but it is best for roughing out the piece and only work it down hill. I had one when I first turned and got PSIs lathe and I wish I still had it.
I do think they have the templetes for chess sets on their website to fit it too.

How to hone a try plane (jointer) iron? |

A try plane is a # 5 or equivalent, it will work for a jointer, but a longer plane would be better. You would be better off with 2 blades if you only have the # 5. One blade with the rounded corners for better, faster removal of stock. One for smoothing and Jointing
