  fiberglass insulation for 12 oc
Posted by: anwalt2 - 10-31-2023, 10:03 PM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (13)

My basement is accessible with 12in oc joists.  I would like to warm the floor above by insulating the floor joists from below.

Looking for suggestions other than cutting 24in oc fiberglass insulation lengthwise.

Paper or foil backing is not necessary in this application.

Materials other than fiberglass are also of interest.  FC is just what comes to mind.

  A Project for November
Posted by: bandit571 - 10-30-2023, 02:25 PM - Forum: Woodworking Hand Tools - Replies (48)

As it will take a while to build...needed to clear off the bench..

And clean up the tablesaw (it was getting rather nasty looking)..

And now..

We have work to do...first two planks to the shop...that will get milled into 4 Stiles..

Planks were a bit too long..only need 41" in length

So, I also cut the worst end off of each...

Split ends, anyone?

Next..need to set the best edge against the rip fence, and buzz off the wavier edge.....reset the fence a blade's width, and run the just sawn edge against it..no more wavy edges, and the edges are NOW parallel ( not tapered)

Then, find the exact center of the planks...set the rip fence to split that line...

There are now 4 stiles sitting on my bench...will need cross cut for square and final length, later....for now?

Will let these sit like this for a day or 3...

Goal?   Project is a 5 drawer Chest of Drawers...Frame & Raised Panel sides....and match the other smaller chest in the bedroom..

There was a plan, that I will simply re-size up to the full size 5 drawer version of this..

Next up? haul a couple more planks to the shop...need blanks for 10 raised panels....and then start milling the rails to hold them...

Stay tuned..

  Fireblock foam worth the $$$?
Posted by: DogwoodTales - 10-30-2023, 08:08 AM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (9)

So regular spray foam is rated for 240 degrees and costs $6 while fire block or high heat spray foam is rated for 240 degrees and costs $10-15.
Why pay more for the same heat rating?

I'm looking for something to fill the gap between my range hood duct and ceiling.

  FS: Woodtek Stroke Sander
Posted by: therick34 - 10-30-2023, 05:11 AM - Forum: Tool Swap N' Sell - Replies (1)

Woodtek 5 hp stroke sander with powered bed elevation. Runs very well - perfect for sanding large live edge slabs, table tops, doors and more. It’s a three phase machine and quite large. Bed folds down to save space. Asking $1400 or best offer. Can assist with loading onto an open trailer. Would consider trades for the right piece of equipment.

Located in Imlay City, Michigan -- about an hour north of Detroit.

  Construction screws
Posted by: MstrCarpenter - 10-29-2023, 08:07 PM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (20)

My inventory of screws is running low. In the past I've always just bought 25 lb. boxes of "drywall screws". For the 1", 1-1/4", and 1-5/8" I'll stick with "drywall screws" (Usually have both coarse and fine thread on hand).
Do you have any recommendations for other general use construction screws up to 4" and where to purchase them. For comparison; 25 lb.s are about $50 at lowes. They're a little more at my preferred Lumber Yard.
I also want to stay with all sizes using a #2 phillips. I went along with the trend towards torx, star, or whatever, long enough. I don't even want the leftover half-boxes that someone else got put in my truck; just throw them in the dumpster.

  Best glue for tambour
Posted by: plharrison - 10-28-2023, 07:47 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (7)

I making a bread box with a tambour door. I was gonna use some sort of canvas, maybe a drop cloth material and glue it to the pieces. What sort of adhesive would be best for this approach?
