Hello once again everyone here is my latest piece "Blue Crab" This piece is a 7" x 7" Cherry hollow turned to about 3/16"" thick then hand drawn and carved away negative space. The coloring is hand pained alcohol inks and finished with satin lacquer.
Woodsmith #45 (June '86) had a garden bench project that caused me to keep it for all these years. Don't need a bench, but I figured we could use a couple more chairs for the deck. I kinda thought the back should have had some curveage, and maybe a bit more angle... but I also figured the original designer had decided 'straight' was good enough. So I did it his way. Shouldn't have. Scaled down the legs from 2-1/2 " material to 1-7/8". Poplar, to be painted. Cute enough, I suppose, and LOML thinks they're fine. I'll sit in the Adirondack.
I ran out of time last fall but this is where I am with the build. I will get it finished this year. I have the chop to finish, as well as the dead man. Not to forget completing the wagon vise. I have not decided whether or not to make it a split top or put on a tool tray. I know a tool tray is historic. And I am leaning that way. Please forgive to mess on the top. When dropping things off in the cold any flat surface works. The legs and chop as well as the dead man are walnut and the top is 4 inch thick Ash. The 4 inch Ash defeats the purpose of having a portable work bench. The wood screw is hard maple and has a couple of coats of BLO on it so it really isn't that color of yellow
If you are 25 it is probably portable at 78 it is not.
I bought a Bedrock 608 flat side at an Auction recently and so far I have disassembled it and stripped the body. The frog is next to be stripped and I have a really nice tote to replace the one on the plane.
and stripped
I plan on resurfacing it, so if you haven't seen the process before keep an eye on the post.
It has taken my a while but all I have left to do to finish my router table is to make two drawers and put on drawer facing. It has been to cold in my unheated shop to work since the middle of November and it it still only takes about 15 minutes for my fingers to start hurting as of today, but it won't be long now. It has been frustrated not being able to take pictures but today my daughter came over and got me up and running so here are a few pictures.

Some things that need to be changed are:
The fence needs to be moved back to allow more room behind the cutter when all the way back. The Jessem wheels do not work with this fence system. Because the fulcrum point to fare away from the actual fence. Because of the distance and play in the linear bearings, the fence lifts up and I lost the down ward pressure. I think a person with an Incra system will have the same problem. Maybe if I lift up on the fence before setting the roller height it will help I will see when it warms up. Or possibly a way to clamp down.
I love MDF inserts on the fence I have some stick on plastic to help the wood to slide past easier. What I really like is I can make a zero clearance fence easily. and the MDF doesn't come near dulling any cutter. Zero clearance inserts really show there worth when using door and rail cutters as well as slot cutting bits. It is easy to remove the MDF cut off the end and make a new zero clearance insert with a different cutter. I made extras.
I already posted pictures of the actual machining of the cast iron top a year or so ago if you would like to see them do a search.
Quote:I am the original owner of this very strong 3 hp. 220 volt machine. It is in excellent condition because it was used only in my small hobby workshop. It can plane and joint 12 inch wide boards and the 55" table makes it easy to work with long boards, The dust collection captures everything. Changing from jointing to planing and back takes only 30 seconds. Sells for $3,800 at Home Depot. My price is $1950 and includes a spare set of new blades. If you are near Philadelphia, come by and run a test piece. No shipping because this is too heavy. Cash on pickup. Only three exterior steps out the door from my shop. Happy to answer any questions.quickly. You won't be disappointed.
I am only selling this very accurate machine because of my small shop. If it sells I will replace it with smaller benchtop machines. I know they won't be as capable, but since I turned 80 years old, I am not doing large scale projects. It's a chance for someone to get an excellent machine at a very good price. If it doesn't move at this price, I'll just keep it until I give up woodworking altogether. Hope that doesn't happen anytime soon. Wish me luck.
