  Beware EnduroVar II
Posted by: jteneyck - 05-14-2024, 12:50 PM - Forum: Finishing - Replies (6)

I loved the original EnduroVar.  It went on great with a brush, sprayed great, had the look of an oil based varnish, and was very durable.  Now there is the new but not improved EnduroVar II.  It cannot be brushed w/o forming bubbles that don't pop and the color looks neither like oil based varnish, nor a clear acrylic.  I bought a gallon for a project.  I couldn't make samples without getting dozens of bubbles, despite GF saying it can be applied with a foam or bristle brush.  I contacted GF, which no longer is easy.  They sent me a new gallon, along with a gallon of HP Poly which was a very nice gesture I must say.

I received the new can of EnduroVar II, only to find the color and smell to be very different than the first can that I had purchased.

This is what HP Poly looks like applied with a foam brush:

Here's what the yellow EV II looks like:

And here's the white one:

On maple, the yellow one:

And the white one:

I sprayed both of them on a piece of sycamore.  The yellow one after 3 coats, sanding with 320 grit between coats:

And the white one:

I don't know which can represents EnduroVar II, the yellow or the white, or neither.  Neither can be applied with a brush w/o forming bubbles that remain in the dried surface.  The yellow one has bubbles after spraying, too.  The white one sprays well and leaves a nice, uniform film after drying w/o defects.

I can't think of a reason to buy more.

  Vintage Dewalt RAS table brackets
Posted by: ahartung - 05-13-2024, 01:09 PM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (15)

I just picked up a mid 50's AMF DeWalt MBF 228 Radial Arm Saw. However, it doesn't have the table, and more importantly, the bracket or other table hardware.
I've got the Mr. Sawdust book and want to make the new table recommended. Does anyone know of a source for the table hardware or can suggest a substitute?

  Harvey sliding table
Posted by: tablesawtom - 05-12-2024, 03:53 PM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (5)

Been wanting a Saw Stop sliding table for a few years. I got off my fanny and ordered a Harvey sliding table instead. Hopefully, when I sell my Excalibur sliding table, it will free up some shop room.

I am kind of considering removing the Left side, side table. If I do I will have to cut the rail for the fence off, but it doesn't look like I will have to relocate the switch,

Any pros or cons to this?

Tom

  Oven ignitors
Posted by: Andydiy - 05-11-2024, 11:45 AM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (6)

I replaced both ignitors about a year ago.  At that time, the ignitors would turn on but must not have been getting hot enough to ignite the gas. Since I replaced them, until today, everything has been fine.

Today, both ignitors are not turning on, neither of them.  Is there a condition that has to be met for them to turn on? If one would short out, does that prevent the other from lighting?  I find it hard to believe both ignitors went bad at the exact time.

Drawer Lock Bit - Drawer Stock Sizing Question
Posted by: Paladin - 05-11-2024, 09:14 AM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (8)

I just bought the Freud Drawer Lock bit. It is Freud 99-240: 2" (Dia.) Drawer Lock Bit with 1/2" Shank - Perma-SHIELD Coating Red -

OK, can't find this anywhere....how do I size the drawer if I am using this bit? For example, if my finished drawer length needs to be 21",

do I use a 21" side or do I have to adjust the measurement because of the bit I am using? If my finished size is to be 21" deep (the sides) and 15" wide,

I would usually (assuming 1/2 thick stock) make my sides 21" and my front and back 14".  Then, with a simple butt joint, my finished drawer would be 21" X 15".

If I use this bit, would that be the same? Or would my prepared stock dimensions have to change to accommodate the bit in order to get the desired final dimensions?

Thanks in advance.

  For Sale - Stanley 92 & 93 Shoulder Planes
Posted by: Tapper - 05-10-2024, 11:02 PM - Forum: Tool Swap N' Sell - Replies (1)

Selling two shoulder planes - Stanley 92 and 93. Bought these some time ago with a plan to refurbish, but never got around to it. Both could use a good cleaning and the knives sharpened. They show their age but should be good users. $150 for both plus actual shipping costs  (reasonable offers considered). Just drop me a PM if interested.

Thanks,

Doug

WTB: Leigh RTJ400 Router Table Dovetail jig
Posted by: Paladin - 05-08-2024, 04:18 PM - Forum: Tool Swap N' Sell - No Replies

I have a hankering to give this a try, but the $400+ entry fee is a little steep for my level of interest.
So, I thought I would post here that I would be interested in picking up a good used one, if any are available.

Thanks.
