Need some weight. Plaster of Paris OK?
Posted by: Eurekan - 06-22-2024, 11:29 AM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (10)

I have a hollow project that, when finished, will be a little top heavy. Plus I don't think it feels right when you lift it. The bottom has a cavity 10 inch diameter by 3 inch deep. I thought I could fill this with some kind of plaster to get the desired effect, but I'm not familiar with casting products, procedures or techniques.

Help! Can I use casting plaster or plaster of Paris? Which would work best? Would something else be more suitable? Thanks for any help.

  Epoxy and high humidity?
Posted by: goaliedad - 06-22-2024, 10:03 AM - Forum: Finishing - Replies (1)

I am ready to pour epoxy to fill knots and other defects in my hickory blanket chest.
We are looking at a very rainy day- over 2 inches of rain expected. A high of 75.

Am I ok to pour or should I wait? I am pouring in a garage workshop- no AC.

  Tormek T8
Posted by: Scoony - 06-21-2024, 09:38 PM - Forum: Woodworking Hand Tools - Replies (3)

Managed to snag a Tormek T8 off Marketplace today. Already figured out how to true the wheel, and managed to sharpen a beater chisel and a block plane blade.   Never really had an issue sharpening blades before, but look forward to using this.

I already have a VS bench grinder with a CBN wheel with the Wolverine jigs. I see that there is a Tormek jig that attaches to the Wolverine base. I would think that this would be a worthwhile jig to have. Would like to hear some thoughts on that.

I would also like to know what other Tormek owners wish they knew or figured out before they messed something up. I have all the instructions and pretty good at following them, however, I always seem to miss some small detail, and mess something up.

Rockwell 1/2 HP Motor: Single Phase: 1725 RPM: Model No. 62-142
Posted by: Philip1231 - 06-20-2024, 01:19 PM - Forum: Tool Swap N' Sell - No Replies

Rockwell single phase 1/2 HP motor (1725 RPM): model no. 62-142. This motor is made by Leeson a was the original motor on a Rockwell radial drill press. Motor has new NSK (Japan) bearings (replaced in 2022) , new power cord, and new plug. I recently swapped this motor out for a 3 phase motor, so this is excess to my needs.

$150 plus shipping.

connecting wirsbo to 3/8 compression valve?
Posted by: EightFingers - 06-18-2024, 02:20 PM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (8)

Refrigerator ice maker is connected to an under sink valve using 1/4” ID wirsbo (pex a, I think). I had to cut this off to do some under sink plumbing and now need to reconnect it. I bought a kit at Lowe’s that included a brass insert and a nylon ferrule. The original had a brass ferrule and insert. It doesn’t leak, but I’m not really trusting the nylon washer.

So where do I get the “right” part?

  Gifts for Father's Day

Besides a plastic tray of screws..

My son also bought me 2 saws...

One rather long saw..the other..

That is 12" OVERALL LENGTH , BTW...both are now just hanging around in the shop..

As for shorty..?
It is suppose to be a flush trim saw...where you place a piece of paper down for it to slide on...

I did try the Rip saw part..

Resaw...Pine..kerf cuts of 1/2" deep..are a bit too wide ( tablesaw blade, meh)  And, unless you have all the angles just right, saw will wander a bit..and is a bit "Grabby"

I guess I am to used to western style saw....will have to do more Practizing, I guess...

Question Design Question - Will this topple?
Posted by: bpatters69 - 06-16-2024, 10:20 AM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (14)

Hello All,

I have a friend who asked me to build her a sewing station on wheels. I would post a picture of the design but its basically a box (like everything we do) that has the following measurements:

18" Wide x 33" Height x 40" Long

I plan to buy 3" casters so the cart will be mobile. This makes the total height 33" + 3" or 36"

Also, she wants a solid wood top that has 18" leafs which can be opened and supported by arms that get stored in the top when not in use.

So we would potentially have an 18" + 18" + 18" top on a 18" base that is 36" high.

I think we need a wider base....

Your thoughts?

Thanks, Bill
