SOLD FS: Delta 17” Floor Model Drill Press SOLD
Posted by: Rick_B - 09-24-2024, 02:43 PM - Forum: Tool Swap N' Sell - Replies (1)

DRILL PRESS IS SOLD
This is a recently completed rebuild – it is a Delta 17” floor model drill press from the early 1940’s. It came to me with no serial number plate and no indication that there had ever been one – so likely a pre-serial number build. It has been completely disassembled, cleaned and painted. The drive system is a 3/4 HP 3 Phase 1725 RPM 230/460 volt motor. The asking price includes a VFD that requires 220 single phase input. It has high speed 5 step pulleys that generate speeds of Published (measured by optical tachometer) – 700 (737), 1150 (1177), 1750 (1801), 2750 (2765) and 4400 (4347). With the VFD you will have theoretically infinite speed ranges but from a practical sense there is a limit. The VFD is not shown in the pictures and is not mounted to the machine – I decided the new owner should choose their desired mounting configuration. I can demonstrate the drill press running. The VFD programming guide and parameters document is included.

I have replaced both motor bearings, the two quill bearings and the two spindle pulley bearings. I also replaced the drive belt. The spindle has an MT 2 nose and an appropriate MT 2 chuck is included. Run out measured on a ½” rod in the chuck is less than .002”. Also included is the standard Delta depth stop assembly and quill return spring mechanism.

This machine has a table raiser and head raiser. The head can be rotated 360 degrees. The table also rotates and tilts – positive tilt stops at 90, -45 and +45 degrees are available. The table can be locked in place at any position between the positive stops. The table has an arc of shame but all holes have been filled – they are not invisible but will provide a smooth working surface and will not collect debris. There table, quill and head locks included.. The base and column are both in good condition. The power cord and plug are also new.

If you would prefer the low speed pulleys I do have a set available. Low speed pulleys generate published speeds of 386, 60,0, 925, 1450 and 2240 RPM’s. Again with the VFD you can obtain any speed in between the standard range. I prefer not to change out the pulleys but would be willing to sell a set at an additional cost beyond the asking price. We can discuss.

I am looking to get $925 for the drill press – you may think I am proud of this machine – and I am – it is a step above the run of the mill drill presses available today but is priced competitively with them. More importantly, the asking price is more of a reflection of how much has been invested to bring it back to life. I am willing to entertain offers but, as I said, there is a lot invested so I only have limited flexibility on price. To keep things in perspective – take a look at the current prices of imported 17” machines before you walk away. Feel free to ask for more information or pictures. Thanks for looking.

  short dial indicator
Posted by: anwalt2 - 09-23-2024, 02:41 PM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (6)

My parks planer needs adjustment.  My dial indicator is too long to fit under the knives (4in).  Looking for a dial indicator 3 1/2in max.  Several do not state the length in their promo.  Have not found one less than 5in.

Thanks for suggestions.

Looking for a good Xmas project!
Posted by: toolmiser - 09-22-2024, 08:45 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (11)

Last year I turned snowmen for them on the lathe for a Christmas present.  This was knowing the oldest would be a college this year and would help her both be in the season, plus have something from home.  I would like to make something again and get it to her before Christmas.  Snowman was only maybe 6 inches tall so I don't want something large.  All ideas would be appreciated.  I better get it going soon!

Thanks

For Sale: SOLD MF Carving Chisel set with Two Cherries chip carver

Pics in this flickr album: https://www.flickr.com/photos/9433588@N0...320515169/

SOLD    Here's a set of 6 Millers Falls carving chisels (set was designated #106); left to right in pics: skew chisel, straight chisel, v-gouge, gouge, cranked gouge and cranked straight. All in excellent condition with very little use at all. Included is a Two Cherries chip carving chisel, very high quality item with little use (current retail is about $35), along with a hard arkansas sharpening stone used maybe once if that. If you always had a puptent in your apron for doing some carving - or know someone who does, this is your opportunity.  Selling because after having these for 15 years I've not carved a darn thing, so its time for a new home for them.  Very reasonably priced at $45 plus shipping.

I'm an old fart and don’t have paypal or any other EFT gizmos, so payment by US Postal money order please, unless I know you from the forum then checks are just dandy; price is plus shipping and I’ll combine items to get you the best rate. First Private Message (don’t use the chat, again I’m old and that that is hard to keep track of) with an unequivocal “I’ll take it” gets priority in line and I’ll respond to every PM promptly with the best shipping rate via USPS. Please put your name and full shipping address in the PM so I can print shipping labels, this avoids a lot of back and forth.

Thanks for looking.

Calling all Riverside County, CA woodworkers, paid project
Posted by: Kizar_Sozay - 09-19-2024, 02:09 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (3)

A friend of mine bought a working 1900s Cabinet Victrola and wants to restore it.  It appears to be figured White Oak, mostly veneer.  He lives in Lake Elsinore. I think maybe the shelves could be restored but the doors are veneered ply.  I have no idea what the green is.  it has no top but he would like one made as in the pic below.  If it were me, I'd use the existing carcass as a template and find some big leaf maple with tiger striping.  Peterman and Reel will let you cull through and pick pieces.  In any event, he's looking to make it "like new".  I have no interest in tackling this but maybe someone out there is.  I have more pics but they are too large to post.  PM me for more details

  Question for Snipe Hunter- Mold
Posted by: gear jammer - 09-19-2024, 12:58 PM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (3)

How and where do you check for mold when you do inspections. Do you have to send the samples to a lab? I too am in the hunt for a new roof and want to check for mold from a leaking corner in the roof. I am torn between metal and asphalt. Metal roof is on sale at Menards and the difference is currently low.

I was very interested in the other new roof and ventilation posts and didn't want to hijack. I have vented soffits and a cupola for a vent.

I'm unable to do this myself anymore and going to start getting bids. Was checking prices this morning.
