Sounds like wood with stresses in it. One of the reasons splitters tend to annoy me. I would give the thinner splitter a try as a thin one is still better than none(sometimes...)

Sounds effective, but I'll stick with my .177 cal pellet gun. Works for rabbits too.

Rockler has some "folding leg" hardware. I bought it several years ago for a customer but never used it.

I got mine at Filters-Now. The particular bag filter I got for the JDS 750 is a 12x24x12 (95%) Accumulair 5 Pocket Synthetic Bag Filter (No Gasket, No Loops).
