  People can't get enough Alder
Posted by: Leinie - 08-09-2015, 09:21 AM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (3)

Rustic alder seems to be the thing nowadays around here for anything 'custom'. I kinda like the look, but as with cherry, I don't generally like it once somebody tries to stain it. Which they almost always do.

Alan
Beautiful pens, like you I never remember the names of the acrylics. Love buckeye burl, I have made several Jr Gent fountain pens using it. They sold well.

Are you going to drawbore both sides?

Otherwise, how would it work?

Suggestions for wall hanging of swords and long guns
Posted by: BrokenOlMarine - 08-08-2015, 09:23 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (5)

I've got several swords hanging on my walls and have gone with a small plaque for many of them. Put either some black felt-covered pieces of metal or dowels angling up a little wider than the blade to hang the sword vertical; sword is supported by the hilt. They're extremely quick & easy to make and are unobtrusive and secure (as long as gravity works ), allowing the sword to be fully exposed and easy to grab. This approach is targeted for broadswords & wouldn't work too well for katanas, wakisashis, or other eastern design swords.

  Airbrush recommendation
Posted by: mbw - 08-08-2015, 02:38 PM - Forum: Finishing - Replies (2)

I keep thinking I'll buy an airbrush but the cheap ones are not very versatile and the good ones like the Grex not cheap. My sister and a couple of her friends make a living with their airbrushes and that's what they all use.

  PVC Trap Leaking
Posted by: Gibbcutter - 08-08-2015, 03:54 AM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (4)

I've had a few leakers like that over the years. The only things I've ever done are:

1. Take it apart and check for burrs or debris.

2. Tighten it all very tight, even to the point of using locking pliers.

3. Failing the above, replace the setup. PVC for under the sink is so inexpensive that it's not worth dealing with forever just to make the in place set up work. Life is simply too short to deal with this particular frustration for very long.

OBTW: I use teflon tape in all the joints. Don't know if that's recommended or not, I just always have.

  Grizzly GO506 bandsaw review?
Posted by: Mike L B - 08-07-2015, 11:30 PM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (2)

Sorry I do not have a g0506 model and after looking it up it seems to be a rather scarce model. I can however comment on my similar g0566 bandsaw and will say I like it. Specs seem similar. The 4600 fpm blade speed makes quick work when ripping. Little vibration and a very solid fence unlike how easy the g0555 fence likes to sneak when a little force is applied. Pick up the add on alluminum resaw fence (h7528) and all it requires is to drill a hole in the current fence and that works great. For the right price and condition I would say go for it. Hope this may help if not good luck!

I keep hearing good things about BM Advance but haven't used it. I used some SW SOLO awhile back and liked it a lot.
