Handle sets for 3 inch thick door.

Your door puts you in "custom" territory. The price for good hardware seems about right. Baldwin is the only other name that comes to mind for better hardware. I would assume that the prices would be the same.

Its gonna be super strong.

I know I made a bench long ago, that was about 6' long, and 3' wide....and the grid was 12"OC with 1/2" MDF with 1/2" skins, and it was rock solid.

  FastCap Sawhood White
Posted by: sweensdv - 08-07-2015, 11:46 AM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (4)

I've seen this set up at a cutting station in a Rockler. Their site has some reviews: http://www.rockler.com/fastcap-chopshop-...ws-content

I didn't use it. Felt it was a bit big for shop use. I could see it if setting up in someone's home to do trim. Or get the kapex. For shop use, people seem to make their own sawdust collection boxes at their cutting station.

Cast iron extension table for table saw/router setup
Posted by: greatscott - 08-07-2015, 10:30 AM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (7)

IMO/E I think I would take a few minutes and cut a hole in the melamine extension table to set the router up in and use it for a project or two.

I never saw the point of a cast iron top for a router setup and have successfully used the above for yrs without once regretting the decision.

Question for the guys that exhaust their sawdust outside directly...

We blew the dust and chips into a plywood box on a small trailer. We sometimes delivered the dust to a local farmer if he wanted it. Otherwise the trailer went to the dump..We filled a box 6-6" x 8'-0" x 4'-0" high about every 8 working days.

  Rough Turning
Posted by: Willyou - 08-06-2015, 07:17 PM - Forum: Woodturning - Replies (3)

Normal rule of thumb for rough turning is 10%. I'm not sure how you can rough turn it without deciding at least close to the final form.
I typically cut to length 4" (2" for each end) longer than the diameter then make sure the pith is removed. I then seal the endgrain well with normally two coats of anchorseal.
If the tree is green it probably has a lot of water to loose. At that size I think I would seal the end grain and about an inch down the cut face and place them in paper bags like a rough out.
If you get to them in the next few months you should have little loss before the rough turn as you decide what you want to make.
If you know you will want some for spindle work (boxes, stoppers, etc) you can go ahead and process some into smaller blanks which will help reduce cracking on those.
When you rough turn it I would coat the entire item with anchorseal. It will take longer to dry for final turning but it will be a lot safer.
Good luck with them.
I have three dogwoods on my property that were here when I build the home 35 years ago and I know none are over 3" in diameter now.

  Binding at the splitter
Posted by: Dutchboy - 08-06-2015, 06:51 PM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (6)

Sounds like wood with stresses in it. One of the reasons splitters tend to annoy me. I would give the thinner splitter a try as a thin one is still better than none(sometimes...)
