Is there a tinted rattle can shellac or lacquer ?
Posted by: wood2woodknot - 11-10-2015, 11:48 PM - Forum: Finishing - Replies (4)

The only rattle can shellac I know of doesn't come in tints. You can buy shellac flakes in many tints and mix your own or add transtint dyes to suit your self. Shellac wipes on easily and can be brushed (although I don't seem to get it right). If you are doling a lot it's worthwhile to invest in good HVLP unit like Earlex. As for lacquers I simply don't know as I don't use the rattle can lacquers.

I really don't think they are too useful. A lot of the things I have used them for in the past will work just fine with a butt joint. If I need more, I use tenons or dovetails. I could never really get things to match up perfectly. I'm sure there are people that glue together plywood at 90 degree angles that use them, but otherwise I'm not sure they are useful

Hand Auger--Is this a special antique nut?
Posted by: Jack in omaha - 11-10-2015, 05:24 PM - Forum: Woodworking Hand Tools - Replies (4)

Originally, it would have had just a square nut. I have seen them with and without washers. As a practical matter, I think a washer is in order to keep the nut from digging into the wood.

I used the Ridgid 18v multitool quite a lot while redoing the roof on my barn.

this blade worked really well to cut shingles.

Who to ask to fix smoking compressor motor?
Posted by: mikefm101 - 11-10-2015, 02:18 PM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (4)

A motor shop (search electric motor repair). To be honest, I'd look for a replacement first to get an idea of the cost before having that one diagnosed. The minimum charge may equal what a replacement would cost, and once the magic smoke gets released it can get pretty expensive to have it put back in.
