I need to find where some brass or copper rivets are

Check at your local hardware store. Mine has copper and brass. The copper ones are technically "roves," used in wooden boatbuilding.

Do you ground your dust collection system?

That is where this thread is going I think.

Myself, I don't fuss about it to much. My shop is outside and unconditioned. That is the only place I can work and it the only place the wood can acclimate to.

There are no other options. I work the wood. I stick it in the house. For me, it is a moot point. Others, professionals perhaps, it may matter more.

Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered two, they are on back order though. I've a couple of magnetic base that I got from them years ago but I'm tired of moving them. I like Rockler but their shipping ($12) is about the same as the gas to drive to their Denver store—with they had one closer

  Band saw gloat
Posted by: SteveF - 12-27-2015, 01:53 PM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (21)

I took a little drive this morning,. ended up with a 1949 Delta 14" wood/metal band saw with a riser block and the cast iron Art Deco base. It has the original 1/2 HP motor. Everything looks pretty good, some surface rust on the base. Only thing I see missing is the tapered pin that holds the table in alignment. All I've got is one lousy pic, it's raining out and I don't want to pull it out in the rain.

The 0.53 second mark in the third video shows the "chuck" really well. :-)

I guess I'd consider something that compliments your cabinets/countertops. Never having built a stove cover, I assume it is just a slab like a table top so it shouldn't present any construction problems.

Most importantly, what does your wife want it to look like?

  staked saw bench questions
Posted by: overland - 12-27-2015, 09:46 AM - Forum: Woodworking Hand Tools - Replies (5)

If you intend to use it for sawing, no higher than your knee.

If you intend to use it for sitting, chair seat height will do.

The oak should be plenty thick enough, although it will be difficult
to bore by hand. If it was me, I would make it a lamination.

Bore the lower (underside) first and use it as a guide for the top half.
You could even through bore if you laminated on a seat layer.

Pictures, please. This will be an interesting project.

Lastly - isn't there some guideline about grain orientation on the legs?
There's considerable splay force on tenons that long.

Hey Arlin,
You can just get some brass rod stock, drill through, add a section of brass rod then peen the ends. I don't believe you need special rivits.
