  florescent lights - troubleshooting
Posted by: varkpilot - 07-13-2023, 02:02 PM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (7)

four lights [two tubes in each] in basement, controlled by one switch.
one is sporadic...sometimes the two tubes light; other times I have to turn one tube a fraction to get them on.
Seems I don't need new tubes??
Suggestions?

  Slope between properties
Posted by: dwg - 07-13-2023, 11:59 AM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (12)

My neighbors lot is about 2 feet higher than mine and he is regrading his property and has created a slope between our properties.  Can he end the slope right at the property line or is there some kind of set back where the slope has to end on his property?
Thanks

Just a quick & easy Rehab
Posted by: bandit571 - 07-12-2023, 01:48 PM - Forum: Woodworking Hand Tools - Replies (4)

Took maybe an hour...started with something rusty & Krusty..

Picked this about a year ago, for $1...

Decided to tear it down to just parts..

Grinder for the DULL edges...couple wire wheels for the rust removal....Witch's Brew for the handles..

Rub all the metal part with 3in1 oil...threads were cleaned up, and oiled up..

Test drive?   Cuts weeds and hedges like warm butter..

Compare to just buying a new one of these?

BTW: I also got rid of that ugly orange paint.....not sure what brand name uses Orange paint.....Home Despot, maybe?

[SOLD] Lie Nielsen No 3 Brand New
Posted by: Danxaz - 07-12-2023, 11:25 AM - Forum: Tool Swap N' Sell - No Replies

[SOLD] I’ve got a brand new Lie Nielsen No 3 in iron. I bought this recently because I thought I would like the smaller size. I currently own a No 4. I didn’t care for the No 3 so I’m selling it. It’s brand new. I would return it but I’m trying to minimize my loss on return shipping charges, etc.

I’m putting it up for sale here for the current LN price plus shipping in a Medium Priority Mail box.

$320 + $17 Shipping = $337

I’m also interested in fair trades. It doesn’t hurt to ask.

Why buy from me instead of LN? You could save a little money on Sales Tax. In AZ, sales tax on this would be around $30.

  New front door
Posted by: KC - 07-12-2023, 05:14 AM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (19)

Hung my new front door a couple days ago.  100 year old house.  Three layers of drywall over the original lathe on the front wall.  They did remove the plaster in that area.

  Bench screw swelling
Posted by: tablesawtom - 07-11-2023, 06:34 AM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (6)

This is probably a question for  the finishing forum, but I bought a lake Erie bench screw and nut. Here in Iowa the humidity can get kind of high. I had my screw and nut at my shop, which has no heat or cooling, only a window fan if I open the window. The wood swelled up so that turning the screw got kind of hard. I took it home which is air conditioned and overnight it was fine. A couple of years ago it got so tight I couldn't turn it at all.

I have been thinking that maybe if I put an oil finish on it it might block the wood from taking on moisture. Has any one else had any experience with this and how did you fix it? I would like to use it on a Moravian bench I am building.

Thanks,

Tom

60" Diameter MCM Table in White Oak
Posted by: ®smpr_fi_mac® - 07-10-2023, 03:17 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (28)

This won't be much of a photo blog, more of a video blog.  As I perform each major step in the process, I'll be uploading them to YouTube.  Once it's finished, I'll edit the footage and create a much-less-painful video to watch.

But if you're into woodworking ASMR, enjoy!

Back story:

I was contacted by somebody through my website.  No big deal, right?  No.  This was my FIRST contact through my site, by somebody I didn't know, and who had no other connection with me.  They presented a couple of ideas they had but weren't wedded to.  We talked back and forth, and I ended up sending them the attached pic I found on line.

They loved it, but wanted it thicker and in white oak, so it's to be built from 1-3/4" thick lumber.

I set about designing it (with help from others here), and presented them the drawing and a quote. They agreed, signed the contract, and sent the deposit.

Videos start in the next post.

Charger for Porter Cable 18V Lithium Ion Battery
Posted by: ShopStud - 07-10-2023, 03:17 AM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (5)

I recently picked up a Porter-Cable cordless hammer drill (PC1800CHD) along with a Porter Cable PC18BLX 1.3Ahr Lithium Ion battery at Goodwill for the princely sum of $9.49.  Both are in excellent working condition, but this did not come with a battery charger.  On investigating a bit, I found out that the battery charger part number is PCLMVC.

Charger - I thought I'd pick up a new one on Amazon and found that they have the equivalent of Part # PCXMVC, which works with both NiMH and Lithium.  Also, there seem to be two battery models (PC18B and PC18BLX), with the PC18B being a NiMH battery and the PC18BLX being a Li-Ion.  What is the difference between PCLMVC and PCXMVC ?  Is there some vendor who specializes in quality after-market chargers that I should be looking at ?  I don't want my battery catching fire or blowing up.

Battery - I am also looking for a 2Ahr to 3AHr Li-Ion battery as an additional/spare one, and am wondering whether there is any particular brand I ought to be looking at, from any specific vendor, so that I get something that works properly and lasts for a few years ?  I am not looking to spend a ton of money on this, as this will be my second drill (my primary is a 20V Max DeWalt brushless that serves me very well and I have a ton of batteries and chargers for that and all my other cordless 20V Max DeWalt brushless tools).

Would appreciate info - Thanks !
