  new Milwaukee pin nailer issue
Posted by: jpohja - 12-04-2023, 08:12 PM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (4)

Just received my new cordless 23 gauge pin nailer today and decided to give it a test right away. Loaded it with a freshly charged battery and its max length (1 3/8 inch) nails and tried driving a nail into the edge of a cherry board with the countersink adjustment set to max depth just to make sure this nailer will countersink into hardwood.
Well I drove several nails in several different spots and it only drives the nail flush or just very slightly below the surface.

Can anyone who has this nailer comment on their experience with this nailer's countersinking ability?
Thanks. John

  Threaded inserts in Ash
Posted by: Splinter Puller - 12-04-2023, 08:44 AM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (3)

Building a standing tall dressing mirror and was at the point to create the pivot using brass threaded inserts.  I could not get the insert to thread into the ash frame.

I tried extra inserts on scrap wood and ended up breaking the brass when I applied enough force to get the insert to engage the hardwood.

What's the secret? drill slightly oversize?

I ended up just tapping the ash directly and screwing into the wood.  I made the threaded depth over an inch and a quarter deep to compensate and give the screws more threads to engage.

WTB - Starrett 91C Tap Wrench
Posted by: Tapper - 12-02-2023, 11:44 AM - Forum: Tool Swap N' Sell - Replies (5)

Not purely a woodworking tool, however metal threaded fasteners are used often in this hobby. FWIW, Starrett makes these in 4 sizes, 91A, 91B, 91C and 91D. The C model kind of hits the sweet spot.

Thanks,

Doug

  Large Bandsaw Mobile Base
Posted by: Oldwood2409 - 12-01-2023, 06:41 PM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (8)

Has anyone built or purchase a mobile base for a large band saw? Like a Jet 20 inch 5 hp. I have built bases for almost all of my shop tools. The wrinkle I have challenged  with is the bottom door swings open almost 90 degrees in order to change blades. I typically place my casters as far to the outside to provide a more stable base.

Any suggestions/thoughts?

Greg

Just curious if anyone has tried Annie’s Young Woodworkers Kits?

(Yeah, I know I can put together my own kits, but this seems much easier.)

  pouring concrete
Posted by: gear jammer - 11-28-2023, 07:51 PM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (10)

How cold can it be and still pour concrete. Should take roughly 3 yards. Adding on to the porch to make a 3 season room. I have been to busy to start it earlier but the wife wants it now if not yesterday. I don't mind working in the cold just not in the snow.

  Sliding doors in plywood dados
Posted by: davco - 11-27-2023, 08:28 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (5)

Is it asking for trouble to have sliding doors ride directly in dado tracks directly in the plywood or would it be better to line the dadoes with some commercial track product?
