  Work to do..
Posted by: bandit571 - 02-11-2024, 12:06 PM - Forum: Woodworking Hand Tools - Replies (7)

First on the list..

Needs replaced...new arm..

Cut this 1x to length..then

Plane to final size AND shape..test fit..

Head was cleaned up..and a new flat was sanded where the thumbscrew goes...was easier than buying a replacement bolt of the correct size, thread and length..

Old pin was FUBAR..

Bent and corroded..would just snap off IF I tried to re-use...so..

Made a new pin, drilled a tight hole and hammered the new pin into place...

Add a coat of Witch's Brew Stain, wipe it down...and call it done...Pin has been sharpened up, as well.

Unable to scroll saw a replacement for..

Plan B.

I made a simpler version.  Will go back later, add a few pin/screw to the brass, then file it flush...
These are both Stanley No. 77 Mortise/marking Gauges...

They do need their points a bit sharper, though...

HVLP Spray Gun for air compressor for latex and polyurethane
Posted by: Johnny Currado - 02-11-2024, 11:16 AM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (11)

I am looking, well in the market, for a good HVLP spray gun that I can attach to my 20 gallon air compressor.  I would like to use it for latex paint for my wood working projects that I build - furniture, desk, bed frames, etc and also for polyurethane and stain.  What does everyone have or recommend I look at in a good spray gun?  thanks in advance!

Trestle table and benches in red oak build
Posted by: ®smpr_fi_mac® - 02-10-2024, 09:32 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (5)

I'll be starting this table in the coming week.  Unlike the attached images it will be modeled after, it will have a straight plank top and glued up legs instead of the reclaimed look.

Size will be 30x72.

  12" Tubing for columns?
Posted by: TyG - 02-10-2024, 02:21 PM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (4)

Hey all,
I've been asked to estimate a project. A house has 6  16' square columns that are 12"x12".  I've been googling the various column companies out there.
BUT, for a simple square, is there a fiberglass or PVC or composite product that I could buy by length? I've been looking up square tubing, box section, etc. There has to be some oddball product for industrial use that is about 12"x12" and in tube form.
NOTE: the columns are NOT load bearing. There are overhanging trusses, so they are basically decorative columns.
I could possible live with 10" x 10" too.

Is there any woodworking you can make money at?
Posted by: nosoup4u - 02-09-2024, 02:09 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (34)

I'm a woodworker of average talent who is about to sell my business and "retire". I have a good line of woodworking equipment, shop space, average woodworking skills, and land with a lot of ash and walnut trees. (I have already cut and had trees milled so I know how that goes).
I know that every fool with a tablesaw and a hammer dreams about making a living woodworking, but is there anything that actually pays?
I'm not looking to make a living doing it, I'll have social security and other investment money, but I would like to have something to spend some time doing and at least break even on.
