  Not used every day
Posted by: tablesawtom - 10-06-2024, 03:20 PM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (2)

I tenoning jig is not used every day but it is a great way to safely make some cuts.

First of all the tenoning jig is really a fixture. It references the workpiece to the cutter but it does not guide the cutter. A dovetail jig guides the cutter and a dowelling jig guides the drill bit.  But when tenoning the cutter is fixed and the fixture holds the part and it moves past the cutter. So much for the Machinery Handbook definition of a jig verses fixture.

Yes there are other ways of making the cuts pictured but I felt a lot safer making these cut when using it so I though I would post them

Worth some consideration, I know it is not red or a table full of holes and all kind of nick knacks to buy. but it is worth a look see.

  What finish for kitchen table?
Posted by: BrentDH - 10-05-2024, 11:20 PM - Forum: Finishing - Replies (4)

An extended family member is refinishing a kitchen table and asked my advice for a durable finish. She had considered a minwax polycrylic product because that is what is easy to find in a big box store. I suggested she do an internet search on arm r seal, but I am concerned that it’s application can be kind of finicky.  Is there a DURABLE, EASY TO APPLY brush on finish that a relative amateur could be successful with that I should recommend?

  Decking Board Question
Posted by: Brian in sunny FL - 10-05-2024, 03:27 PM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (6)

I have a local guy selling 5/4 x 6" x 16' western red cedar decking boards for $16 each which seems like a pretty good deal.  I have some that need replacing and was going to use synthetic but may just use these based on the price and planned on building some large planters so can plane them down and use same material.  Two questions.

They are rounding on one corner, is that the top side or bottom side to hide fasteners.

Can you use hidden fasteners on any board or do they need to be made for it?  Which ones are popular?

  I messed up
Posted by: ChicagoGlen - 10-05-2024, 02:56 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (4)

Hey all,  Question for you.  I live in Illinois and when I started finishing off my basement years ago I planned on having a large section of it done in a Craftsman style wainscotting using Quarter Sawn White Oak Plywood and real 3/4 Inch QSWO boards.  Problem is I miss calculated and Im short around 5 sheets of 1/2" mdf core QSWO sheets.  I originally source my sheets from the hardwood connection in Sycamore IL but they are now closed.  Is there another site near by that I can source this?  Thanks for any help.  I googled but options are limited and wondered if anyone knew a place that was good.

Any Help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Glen

  Celtic knot
Posted by: firefighter - 10-04-2024, 07:02 PM - Forum: Woodturning - Replies (4)

I want to turn a knot on a piece of 1.5" stock about 3 to 4 in long. Overall the stock will be 6 inches long. Is there a formula for calculating the length and angle? I'll take any help I can get. Got between now and Christmas.

I figured mark the over all length and measure angle and length. Can it be that simple?

  Grizzly G0441 cyclone remote
Posted by: Woodshop - 10-04-2024, 03:15 PM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (27)

Got a problem with my G0441 cyclone, The remote will only turn the machine on . I can't get it to turn it off . I have to use the button on the control box to shut it off. I have two remotes and they both are only turning it on only.
Grizzly says I need a complete new control box that is $256 + tax. I asked if I could just replace the board for $100, he said he didn't think it would fix it.
so I'm asking you, what ya think ?

  door strike plate repair
Posted by: 5thumbs - 10-03-2024, 08:03 PM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (6)

There is a 4-year-old in my home. Home story short, I have several door frames that have been damaged by breaking the strike plate portion of the frame.

I was thinking about cutting the damaged portions out and inserting a blank. Has anyone done this? Is there a better way to fix the frames? Thanks in advance.
