  GFI
Posted by: anwalt - 08-29-2015, 07:13 PM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (6)

To start with, remove the downstream wire just to isolate the cause.

Some GFCIs won't reset unless power is off. Read your instructions.

Also, replace with common outlet and test hot/neutral/ground are correct with one of those testers.

Verify it is really the first in line too, but that really shouldn't matter.

What to do with this alarm system...
Posted by: live4ever - 08-29-2015, 05:21 PM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (3)

Add glass break sensors, add heat and smoke sensors, add motion dector(s). Probably need a zone extender. Maybe a new panel?

Making cabinet doors with plywood panels

The thicker ply is probably best, but i have used shims (toothpicks)on the backside, those little rubber balls, caulk if painting and 23 ga pins . They alp work fine for the rattle, some do for the gap.

  Craftsman 6-inch Jointer pulleys
Posted by: petertay15 - 08-29-2015, 10:38 AM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (2)

It depends on the RPM of the motor. 1725 RPM will require something about 4 to 5 inches.
3600 RPM can use 2 or 2 1/2.

  Glue joint testing?
Posted by: K. L. McReynolds - 08-29-2015, 09:26 AM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (8)

The down and dirty way to test a picture frame joint would be to hang it from one corner and hang a pail on the other corner and fill it with water until it breaks. Might take several pails, however. A step up would be to use a hydraulic cylinder that has a gage on it. Put it inside the frame and push opposing corners apart until it breaks. Or if you have a hydraulic frame press, put it inside and press from outside in.

Or just use loose tenons and there will be no need to worry about testing.

  $50 spray Gun
Posted by: Willyou - 08-29-2015, 09:05 AM - Forum: Finishing - Replies (2)

I can't say how well that gun works, but for $10 you can buy an HVLP gun at Harbor Freight (on sale right now) that sprays shellac and low viscosity finishes really well. It will run on any compressor that can put out around 6 CFM at 40 psi, which is a pretty modest compressor. With an HVLP gun you can control fluid flow, air flow, and fan width.

  Columbus, OH

I'll be happy to help. Will you be here on Friday? If so, and if my dealer has any sales, I'll be glad to take you with me. Otherwise, come out to my basement shop for a tour - we'll bring out the "boneyard" for you.

One place is good for old tools - Heritage Square Antique Mall - north off Exit 110 on I 70 - about 3/4 mile north and on the west side of Brice Road. Good selection - priced about market, but I have found a number of deals there. Be sure to look through the display cases also.

Finally, no trip to Columbus is complete without a trip to Woodwerks, a woodworkers dream store. Fortunately, maybe unfortunately at times, I live with 6 miles of each of the above recommendations.

  Interesting info on clamp pressures
Posted by: kscott - 08-29-2015, 05:43 AM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (13)

great test
quote" using a bathroom scale "
say what !
might had better placed the clamps on ones finger and hollered ouch when the clamps got tight
I personally have never seen a quick clamp that would clamp better[ meaning more pressure] than my parallel clamps
call me skeptical

Gunsmithing Workbench Top Finish ***PICS ADDED***
Posted by: titanxt - 08-28-2015, 11:23 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (5)

Nothing, a film finish will chip and crack, and is unnecessary. If you feel that you must just use either BLO or better polymerized Tung oil. Oil varnish mixes just have all the problems of BLO and varnish both.
