Some plants can be left in the ground to keep growing. Check with your local Ag extension service for your location.

  Stanley plane

The thickness of shaving you can cut will depend on a lot of things but the wood is going to be the major one. You may have noticed that the shavings want to curl. A thick shaving is going to break before it will curl that tight. My suggestion, forget the plane and cut strips on the tablesaw.

  Food safe epoxy?
Posted by: The Boxer - 09-16-2015, 07:37 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (6)

I could be wrong, but I think if dried fully none of them would pose a health risk.

That said this site says theirs are food safe, and FDA approved.

It will be interesting seeing other answers.

  Tool tote stock thickness?
Posted by: MauleSkinner - 09-16-2015, 07:11 PM - Forum: Woodworking Hand Tools - Replies (3)

I have made some totes and I think 1/2" poplar is fine. I made one from yellow pine that was milled to 3/4" and it ended up to heavy to tote around empty.

  Tigerwood & Quilted Maple box
Posted by: Gecko - 09-16-2015, 05:27 PM - Forum: Woodworking - No Replies

The third of five for the show.

Description:

This box is made from Tigerwood with a Quilted Maple top panel. The dimensions are approx. 8 1/2x 3x 2" tall. It was finished with a drying oil on the inside and outside. The outside was finished with shellac using a french polish technique and then buffed out with Carnauba wax. The hinges are a miniature barrel type and the box opens to 85°. The liner is a synthetic suede material.

John
My vote is for no dye, real nice figure in those boxes. Great job.

  good wood for planter box?
Posted by: overland - 09-16-2015, 03:49 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (8)

You might want to give dimensions if these are huge, otherwise in the "normal" sized planter box I wouldn't see a need for a frame.
