Is this second hand router any good?
Posted by: overland - 10-08-2015, 06:33 PM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (6)

I don't have one but that router is pretty well regarded AFAIK. The early ones had issues with magnesium housings corroding. Bosch fixed that - I think they replaced the magnesium parts with aluminum.

Roughing gouge? Spindle gouge? Bowl gouge?

Are you asking what it should be or are you telling us this is what you are experiencing and want to know how to fix it? Also, from what view are you describing the curvature? When viewed from the side, the upper edge of a bowl gouge should be convex or straight. If you are saying yours is convex on one side and concave on the other, then you are probably not contacting the same part of the wheel when you are rolling the tool between sides, or the pressure you're applying to the tool when rolling it from side to side is not consistent.

  Paste wax

There was an article in FWW a year or two ago from Michael Fortune who advocates using Waxilit to keep glue squeeze out from wetting onto adjacent wood. He cleaned it off with MS, IIRC, and said it doesn't interfere with even WB finishes. I found that hard to believe but have never tried it so I can't say. But with an OB finish I'd feel pretty confident it would be OK as long as you do a good job scrubbing it with MS.

  12v vs 18v Impact drivers
Posted by: Jonny Rocket - 10-08-2015, 01:50 PM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (13)

I have a 12V Bosch and a 18v Dewalt. World of difference and the Dewalt, for the past 3 months, has served yeoman's duty in an industrial setting, with very heavy use. Batteries were new (2), tool was a refurb. Simply great.

When to cut that tree down
Posted by: scpapa - 10-08-2015, 11:44 AM - Forum: Woodturning - Replies (5)

Rick

If you want the bark to adhere to the wood then you have to wait until October or November when the sap goes back down into the roots or when the leaves are off of the tree until March.

Some trees the bark is always hard to keep on so you might put what kind of tree it is.

Dust from basement shop and duct cleaning.

Wierd. I have to plan for returns for our house. Unfortunately we don't have basements so returns with an upflow are a royal pain to do. The new unit is going in a closet between bedrooms so I can run a return in to one the other return will have to go through the closet of that room first. Stopping sound on those is a pain too as its a straight shot from the fan to room.
Luckily our house is pier and beam which is rare here so I can run returns to the other end of the house through the sealed crawlspace. Still can't get them up high on the wall where I need them here though.

  Jet Air Filteration

I have a Jet Air Filteration that started shutting off
when it felt like it. Sometimes would run all day, other times just a few minutes and anything in the middle. Then not at all.
Had it taken down and while on the bench I turned it on with the button on unit and it ran until I turned it off.

Okay. I follow you to here. By inference, at this point you could not turn it on with your remote (even with fresh batteries in the remote).

Bought a new remote and it turns the motor but won't engage to stay on.

Not sure what turns the motor means. Does it still work when you push the button and run until you push the button again?
GaTurner said:

Any suggestions as what the problem may be. I ordered Jet remote with model number. The
Jet is ASF-1000B. Thanks, Sandra/ Gaturner

I don't know if Jet uses an infrared (IR) or an RF remote.

If it is IR, then the receiver lens might be dirty or have sawdust in it.

If it is RF, do you have any fluorescent lights strobing in the shop? or notice any odd sparking noise on an AM radio in the shop?

When it was sitting on the bench, was the air flow obstructed/different than it is now?

If it is now back to hanging, then you might have a loose screw in the plug or in the receptacle.

Hopefully, if nothing else, a bump back to the top might get you better answers from someone who owns that same unit.

How do you organize container lids in the kitchen?
Posted by: DogwoodTales - 10-08-2015, 10:42 AM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (13)

My wife has a lot of containers.

For the most part we have 3 sizes of lids that fit most of the containers. The containers without lids nest together. And the lids of each size snap together.

Each size of lid fits 2 or 3 depths of containers. So we have about 8 stacks of containers and 3 stacks of lids.
