As you should be with that set.... and had you placed them on S&S, they wouldn't have lasted a minute!

  walnut chest

Walnut has prominent pore which need to be filled for a writing surface but IMHO this is detrimental to the wood. For something like a chest I would not consider using a grain filler, it only dulls the wood, and adds extra time and expense.

I'd use garnet shellac .or Ruby or Thai seed for a reder color. This will pop the grain with one to 3 1# cut coat and is very easy to apply. If he is not expecting heavy use then he is done. Otherwise he can topcoat with a good waterborne like Crystalac premium or GF HP/EnduoVar, They are very easy to use.

The pool supply place is ripping you off. Heck you could buy Arm and Hammer baking soda at Costco and it would be the same thing. The 5% other stuff is what you want to avoid and I bet the stuff you use to increase the pH of the house water is pure stuff.

Don't blame you for not wanting to shell out $700.00 I would go with the Grizzly.

Soon to find its way into a Woodcraft store with a Woodriver moniker? Anyway, of interest to some might be its ability to clamp a saw blade to it to use as a kerf starter. Something that was mentioned in another recent thread.

  Case Miter Shooting Board
Posted by: BC in CT - 10-20-2015, 01:10 PM - Forum: Woodworking Hand Tools - Replies (5)

What you want is a donkeys ear. You can make a dedicated one or add a attachment on to your standard shooting board. There are lots of different designs. If you will have a molded edge you will want both a left and right jig so you are always shooting into the moulding otherwide you will blow it out on the backside. Google will give you lots of ideas. Here is a good pdf from Pop Woodworking to get you started.

I think this is legit. Anyone in the area know for sure?

Quote:

Greetings Brass City Records fans , friends , customers and family. We come to you one last time in an attempt to properly perserve the legacy of our friend and mentor, Walt Quadrato. Over the last few months, friends of the family have been very busy cleaning out 30+ years of items that have accumulated. But time has not been on our side, and the process has taken much longer than we expected (or could afford). The family is in desperate need of fund raising to help pay the rent for another month, so everything can be properly perserved and Walt's legacy remain intact. It is our hope that we will be all cleared out by the end of November, and we hope to celebrate with a party (at the store) for everyone that has contributed, to share our final memories of the store and the man that meant so much to all of us. Please give anything that you can to help the family, or we fear at the end of October, everything will need to be disposed of, including important local relics and personal family memories , due simply to the lack of time and money. One last time for Walter!
