  Looking for Griz 10% coupon
Posted by: Roger T - 11-20-2015, 10:27 AM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - No Replies

Guys, I finally got the approval to get a new tablesaw after 15 years of whining. I'd really appreciate a coupon if you have one you are not going to use.

Thanks much,

Roger

  Framing Nailers?
Posted by: Halfathumb - 11-20-2015, 08:47 AM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (9)

Higher angle 28 one uses clipped nail heads, the lower, full nail heads. With clipped heads you don't have to reload as often, I think they hold more. Some local building codes prohibit clipped nail heads. I went with the full head nailer.

  finish for micrometer cases?

GF Arm-R-Seal or EnduroVar. The Arm-R-Seal will take longer to cure but will look better unless you use something like shellac to pop the grain before using the EnduroVar.

Help with poly on school desks!
Posted by: overland - 11-19-2015, 11:12 PM - Forum: Finishing - Replies (3)

First, go to the head of the class and get a gold star. It's rare now days that a parent can make a contribution to a school which will last for years.

Bubbles and nibs? Welcome to Miniwax. To smooth the surfaces, sand lightly, by hand, with 600 grit and a block and clean up with a micro fiber cloth which collects dust like a magnet. The desks are not fine furniture so close counts. They are going to take a lot of abuse in the future. Kids are kids. If you are really concerned, after sanding, go in search of a wipe on finish for a final top coat.

Applying a poly finish in the 60's is right on the edge, IMO.
In the future, consider using Arm-R-Seal or General Finishes High performance. No bubbles and durable surface protection.

Oh, forgot to mention. How old is your Miniwax? Fresh is always better. Good luck.

Dave

  Maintenance on a Jet JWP-208hh??
Posted by: themoon - 11-19-2015, 07:56 PM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (2)

Yes just put in some drops of oil every few months. I oil once a month as i use the planer almost every day. For the extention cord i would just make an ext cord. Usually these machines wires use a weird size of chinese cord. You can replace the whole cord but then you need to get in and work inside the switch box. For me its just easier to go to my elictric supply and get some SO cord and twist lock plugs.
