Unity Cross (semi-)Build-Along - Caution: Pic Heavy
Posted by: Blaine - 11-19-2015, 02:51 PM - Forum: Woodworking Hand Tools - Replies (9)

I know I should wait until you get the whole story posted, but…

WOW. I can’t believe how well the cross turned out. And the backstory is just terrific.

Congratulations on the upcoming nuptials, Blaine!

Live Edge Slab Countertop Nearly Done
Posted by: jteneyck - 11-19-2015, 01:04 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (4)

Bet it's looking awesome in person, with all that crazy grain.

I'm just finishing up my new live edge table. It's not walnut , but it is a single piece of cypress Big jug of West epoxy arrived yesterday, so I'm off to fill in some knot holes now.

  2010 platinum edition Unisaw.
Posted by: JGrout - 11-19-2015, 10:42 AM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (9)

I don't think that is a 2010...maybe it's a typo... 2000 or 2001 is probably more like it. That era of saw is late 90's early 2000's IIRC.

I have a '98 (IIRC) Grand Edition (white) that is very similar to the Platinum Edition that is shown. I also have a '05 that is similar but has some obvious differences to the one shown. HTH

In any case not good.

  Musty Odor
Posted by: Halfathumb - 11-19-2015, 08:15 AM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (4)

I've got the same issue in one of my bathrooms, faint, and it comes and goes. I suspect it is sewer gasses leaking from a compromised seal, and I've been putting off pulling the toilet and replacing the wax ring because its such a PITA due to the location of the toilet. It's a nuisance, until it gets really strong and continuous, then it might be a health issue, I really don't know what's in the gas, likely co2. I'm sure someone here knows.

  Cleaning an Old Woodie
Posted by: lilrichard2 - 11-19-2015, 07:59 AM - Forum: Woodworking Hand Tools - Replies (2)

Very nice. I've used the same technique, tried and true, cleans just enough so that you don't modify the tool. I do tend to use Scotchbrite-type synthetic pads however, no metal swarf debris from steel wool although the result is the same; my choice might be influenced by having scored a case of perhaps 1k of assorted pads about 5 years ago for $10 . . . drive by gloat I guess, eh?

  Veneer
Posted by: woodsman83192 - 11-18-2015, 08:43 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (2)

A buy like that goes beyond "you suck". I'd check Veneer Supplies for any of the tips you'll need, otherwise there's nothing special about flattening it. Lots of paper, I use my vac bag...but a lot of guys seem to be able to flatten with platens and weight (don't try using weight for the glue, tho.....DAHIKT). Congrats. I think if I was making panels for doors, I'd cut the veneer down to manageable pieces before I started flattening...an 8' piece is a little unwieldy. What substrate do you have in mind?
