  Is this Western Red Cedar?
Posted by: ronkan - 11-26-2015, 03:48 PM - Forum: Woodworking Hand Tools - Replies (5)

Might be, but I'm doubtful. This door is WRC -

I imagine you can find clear cedar, but it isn't what I usually see. Grain looks different to me as well. How soft is it? You should be able to dent WRC with a thumbnail without much effort.

  Delta tablesaw QUIT on me
Posted by: woodcutter199 - 11-26-2015, 11:53 AM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (1)

You need to be a bit more specific.

Is your saw a Unisaw or some other model? Does the motor start and then quit running or does it not start at all? Is the motor the old bullet head style? If it is, the problem could be as simple as rotating the brush ring a bit one way or another. If the motor doesn't start at all, if you keep on applying power to it, you could possibly burn out the windings.

  DC on a 66
Posted by: Aram - 11-26-2015, 11:32 AM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (7)

Has anyone successfully moved dust from a PM66? My new-to-me '82 is a terrific saw, but the dust just piles up. I'm pulling with the same Oneida cyclone, and the same hose, that kept my Unisaw almost entirely clean.

Any mods to try?

Thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving.

Vent outside and you can save your brain cells for actual woodworking.

  Magnetic jointer knife setting jig
Posted by: GOVOLS - 11-26-2015, 10:04 AM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (6)

I use a different method using a strong magnet and a piece of glass.
I do not think you need to make the tables the same height with your jig, just parallel to each other. The infeed table can be lower. Then the cutters won't touch the table. I'll assume your directions will be the same as follows.
Loosen the locking screws.
Set jig over the cutterhead.
Rock cutterhead back and forth very slightly so knife comes up to the magnets. The cutter should be flush to the magnets.
Snug locking screws and check.
Repeat for other knives.
Raise the front table for depth of cut and try a test piece.
My method only differs in the magnet and piece of glass.I place a piece of 1/4" plate glass from a jalousie window on the outfeed table only. I lower the infeed table at least 1/2" for easier access to the cutterhead screws. No need to find top dead center, this method does it for you.I have a magnet rated at 50 lb pull that goes over the glass. The knife pulls straight up with a definite "click".I rock the cutterhead slightly so the blade is dead flush with the glass.
Then I snug up the screws, check and tighten the screws.
Usually takes me 40 minutes or less to remove, clean cutterhead and replace knives.

  Grizzly shipping question
Posted by: atgcpaul - 11-26-2015, 09:42 AM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (4)

You pay for lift gate service through Grizzly. They will ask if you order on the phone or it will be a check box if you order online. It is a $35 option here. I think it varies per location/shipper. I usually pick up at the terminal so I don't have to take a day off work and wait around all day.

There will be more knowledgeable answers, but I'm getting ready to do this as well (mine will be a 3 gang box). I intend to cut the nails on the existing box, remove it...enlarge the hole and put an "old work" box in. It will be interesting to see the alternatives offered.
