TV Sound Bar Question |

I have terrible hearing, which irritates LOML.
Decided to explore sound systems for the TV. We had a wired surround system with a sound bar and two side placed small speakers. The wires for the side speakers were a huge PITA.
Finally went to a store and listened to several types.
Wound up with a Bose system, a large adjustable bass and two small speakers, all which are best mounted beside the TV.
The result is good volume for me that does not blast out LOML---and the kids get theater quality sound when the bass is turned up.

One of my all time favorite planes. If you have plenty of panels in your future, or other T&G work, then they are darn useful. The LN version is actually a bit better since the blade is a one piece design. It makes it easier to set the depth consistent for both sides of the tongue. The LN 48 is on my short list to buy myself.

Problems getting flat 3/4" out of 4/4 stock |

A couple of questions I have:
How thick is the stock when you start, a full 1"?
Does it have to be exactly 3/4" thick? What type of profile and how are you joining the rails and stiles together?
Are you getting to select the S3S stock, or do they load/pick it for you?

I don't know, but I would start by ruling out any that use plastic gears. I don't know if they still do, but there has been a lot of talk here about those mixers and their cheap gears. Not all models, but some.

Rarity of shorter D8 Disston saws? |

True 18" D-8 panel saws are relatively rare.
I'm highly skeptical that there's any magic in your Atkins -- (I'm going to guess it's inconsistent sharpening that explains it)
Given your location, any bias you may have towards the Atkins is understandable (and perhaps even admirable)

I made one this past spring using crapy poplar. Mine is 2' by 2' and I plane to simple lift it off the pile to get to the good stuff.
