Best/Adequate ply for Tablesaw Extension Cabinet?
Posted by: macpiano - 12-11-2015, 06:33 PM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (5)

I doubt you're getting real Baltic Birch for $55 a sheet. It's more like $80-100 a sheet. BB has more plys and it's nearly void-free. Very important if you plan to screw things together, since you don't know where the voids are until you cut it. I use 3/4" for the carcases on my shop cabinets, and 1/2" for the drawers or shelves.

  What is this? A clamp?
Posted by: DogwoodTales - 12-11-2015, 05:53 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (8)

It is gear puller. Also useful for pulling pulleys. ( a pulley puller ). The hooks hold the outside of the gear or pulley that is on shaft, and when you turn the screw against the end of the shaft, the gear or pulley is removed.

FWIW...I like it! Nice classic combination of wood and clean well executed design. Good job. I haven't tried hollow forms yet.

  What is this wood?

Yup. The rays and the ring porous configuration confirm the acid smell. Oak.

  Another Rockler rant.

The product description says it doesn't come with a dust port. Curiously, the package for just the table alone does come with the dust port. Go figure. It's things like this that have taught me to double check the specs on what I buy before I hit the button.

Oops! What will happen if I use a woodburner on lacquer
Posted by: jerickson - 12-11-2015, 10:20 AM - Forum: Woodturning - Replies (4)

It'll look ugly. I'd go with a permanent marker on this one. You could experiment on a piece of scrap and see what happens, but I don't think you'll like it. Or you could sand off the lacquer, burn in your name, then refinish the bottom with something besides lacquer.

  Fixing a cupped iron??
Posted by: DaveParkis - 12-10-2015, 10:51 PM - Forum: Woodworking Hand Tools - Replies (12)

How badly cupped are they Dave? I've never seen a cupped plane blade, but then again I just have my set of users and I'm not dealing. The chip breaker and cap iron don't flatten it?

  sagging gutter
Posted by: scpapa - 12-10-2015, 09:58 PM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (8)

The slope doesn't need to be constant, just be high enough to drain. I think I'd start by checking that the brackets to each side of the sag are pitched correctly. If they are pitched I'd figure out why the spot sagged. Did the facia get damaged?
