I've been a couple of times, but a very long time ago. As you said, I'm sure I'd look at it differently now that I'm a woodworker. I was at Hancock Shaker Village in NW Mass. about 5 or 6 years ago. That's another great place to visit if you are a woodworker and especially if you like Shaker.

I am getting ready to finish a 6 board chest I built as a toy box. I plan on painting it with Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint. The MMSMP website recommends adding either hemp oil or wax (or both) on top of the paint.
Any personal experience with either? Any recommendations?
Thanks
Haven't used "Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint" but have used the powdered stuff from www.milkpaint.com and www.realmilkpaint.com. Both look chalky when applied and dried. Even after three coats. So with a quick sand between coats to level (messy) I've used BLO, paste wax and wiping varnish to make the paint color "pop" a bit. So far, I've liked the results from a coat of BLO followed several days later by some paste wax.

From the 360 degree view it appears each end of that piece is a slip fitting to be cemented to conduit. If so install it vertically so the half with the larger OD is the higher end. Water won't be able to penetrate then. The conduit coming down from the top will be glued in and water will just run down the outside. It can't run back up into the joint.

What were they made off, brass or pot metal, Did they have sharp, machined threads, Did you drill a large enough pilot hole for a hard maple bench. Did you lube the threads with soap or wax?

I'm assuming by new hardware you mean you replaced the springs and seats in the pic. I have had lots of trouble getting just the right ones for old fixtures and I have a very good plumbing supply house in town.
As for the anti scald valve. I don't have any ideas as I have never seen or heard of that brand before. Must be a regional brand. I can't stand the anti scald valves. Too much crap in city water that plugs them up here.
