I use an incandescent light bulb hung on the planer gear box to the same end.

  Breadboard End repair question

A hidden spline will keep alignment. Just glue the middle 3or 4 inches of the spline and let the rest float.

It is just a thought. I've never tried it. But it sounds pretty easy with a router and a spline cutter.

  Arm-R-Seal and BLO
Posted by: Jonny Rocket - 01-12-2016, 02:21 PM - Forum: Finishing - Replies (2)

Somebody named Michael Dresdner (spelling?) wrote in a magazine some time ago that when used with oil based varnishes, BLO has no discernible impact on the color of the piece...the oil in the varnish gives the same enhancement. He offered several pics of different species to prove his point. I'm not sure I agree with that, but try some of the Arm R seal on a piece of scrap and see if you are happy with the look, chances are you will be. Should you still be searching for a little more color, I've taken to suing garnet shellac instead of the BLO...it also gives a nice look.

  Branding Iron Recommendation?
Posted by: CharlieD - 01-12-2016, 01:47 PM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (5)

I got an electric one from this place recently. It does take some practice

http://branding-irons.biz/

but overall Im happy with it. In hindsight I would have done my signature in a different font something cleaner and larger. Im still working on perfecting my method - holding it straight how long to press etc

However the branding Iron is really good. reasonably priced and Terry was great to deal with

  splitting a 220v circuit into 110's?
Posted by: Cdshakes - 01-12-2016, 01:03 PM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (5)

Short answer is, yes. Wire it as a 240V circuit (2-pole, common-trip breaker), and use individual GFCI receptacles on the two 120V circuits.

I ran my garage shop in NJ on a single 120/240V multiwire branch circuit, just like you're proposing. You just have to manage your loads; I'd run heat on both circuits (portable heaters), then shut them off when I was going to use a heavy load.

  Some stabilized knife scales
Posted by: Timberwolf - 01-12-2016, 12:36 PM - Forum: Woodworking Hand Tools - Replies (1)

Smaller items do infuse well and the set up is inexpensive. Especially with softer woods. Ink pen blanks, one small part at a time. When you get into larger projects that require larger vessels to hold the resin and part, stronger vacuum pumps, cold traps, etc. then things start to change. Oh, and don't forgot to add in the larger easy bake oven. The warping is a real pain and requires thicker wood as well. So then the cost goes up in both terms of wood supplies and resin. You are infusing more wood to compensate for the warping. Notice I didn't mention your time.
Set up expense is more a question of home hobby use for pens, bottle stoppers, etc. Or more of a commercial use. Then again. Is there an inexpensive hobby or business to get into?

one way multi tip live center
Posted by: Bill Mains - 01-12-2016, 10:47 AM - Forum: Woodturning - Replies (4)

I have the oneway live center with #2 MT. I used it on a Jet 12 20 vs. It's a very good tool, a good buy and been the same price for at least 5 years.

oneway live center

I got a 3/4" x 10 TPI tap to make soft centers for the live center.

I like the spindle adapter with it, really handy for reverse chucking accurately. Here I cut a spindle in 2 pieces, chucked and ready to turn after parting.
