Endgrain walnut herringbone box in progress - kludge - 01-12-2016

Here's a little progress on the inside of the lid.



Sanded to 800grit.

I'm resisting adding a finish till it is all completed.

All finished up!

5" in diameter and 1 3/4" high.

It looks very nice. How did you cut it up to make it look like that or how does the board have to be cut also?

Yes, it was cross cut into 2" lengths and glued into the herringbone design. Here is the black before I turned round

Thanks! two coats of BLO.

I honestly prefer the look of shellac on walnut, but I was all out.

Yeah, it torn out like mad! I had to really work it with the 80 girt gouge....
