  Tool Storage

I helped a friend load a PODS unit with his tools for a move from Tyler to Fredericksburg. Although not cheap, he liked it because he could load/unload at his leisure. We did not attempt to tie stuff down - we did try to balance the load and keep the heavier stuff low on the floor. We also tried to either block in vertical pieces or lay them down on the floor to avoid a top-heavy or tipsy load.

It's also possible the folks at POS may have some advice.

Hope this helps.

  Dylos measurements?
Posted by: mdhills - 01-20-2016, 12:42 AM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (2)

Something is stirring up the dust in your shop when you're not there. Forced air heat? Leaky garage door? Pets running around?

For comparison:

In my basement shop the forced-air HVAC ducts are in the ceiling. Even when the shop is unoccupied, air movement keeps the DYLOS at 200-300 (large particles).

If I enter the shop and simply walk around busying myself with non-woodworking tasks, the particle count rises to the 1000's if the floor was recently vacuumed and into the 2000's if it hasn't been.

I only see the large particle count go above 3000 when operating machinery.

black stuff / debris in bath water

I would be shutting off the water and pulling one of those hoses to inspect it. You may be collecting the same crud in the aerater screens on your other faucets.

  QSWO finishing question
Posted by: 2beast - 01-19-2016, 07:40 PM - Forum: Finishing - Replies (3)

Nice wood! I'd use this technique to really accentuate the grain and then topcoat with a coat of shellac to protect the lower layer. Maybe orange but likely thai seed. But test and see what you like. Omit the seperate dye and gel stain and save some effort.

  Kitchen cabinet brand experiance
Posted by: whatline - 01-19-2016, 07:31 PM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (11)

Has anyone used Wolf, Oracle or Kith for their kitchen cabinets and if so what are your opinions? Google doesn't provide much info on Oracle. They are in Montgomery Al. Appears to be same address as a Jim bishop cabinets. Kith is in Haleyville Al. I looked at their site. Wolf look like nice reasonably priced cabinets. The problem is our gov is a obumer clone to the nth degree. I seriously figure the company must have kept him away from the business. It sort of rubs me wrong to buy his companies cabinets..just on principal. I do need to buy from someone any other recommendations?

  Brown Tool Auction

There are 35-50 tables inside and, with the foot of snow expected, probably no one tailgating outside. But I could be wrong. It's a M-WTCA meet and it opens at 7 I think. I won't be there since I'd have a 2 1/2 hour drive in the snow before dawn to get there. Not this time. But I imagine most of the dealers at the inside tables will be there, since most of them come in the day before.
It's definitely a good sale.

  Flattening my Shapton waterstones
Posted by: overland - 01-19-2016, 06:35 PM - Forum: Woodworking Hand Tools - Replies (3)

I don’t remember how long ago I got my Atoma 400, but it’s been a lot more than two years ago. It flattens my Shapton Pros pretty quickly, about 30-60 seconds. Here’s an example: http://giantcypress.net/post/668546073/j...pened-with

It may be that the Shaptons take longer to flatten than Nortons. But it still shouldn’t be a huge chore to do so.
