I found an unknown stick in the shop.
It’s about 7/8” thick, 3” wide and 24” long
I’m thinking it’s one of 3 varieties:
Lignum Vitae, Cumaru or IPE.
It’s very dry and kind of oily.
Planing produced some really small dusty chips.
The smell was similar to ironwood but not nearly as strong.
It’s brownish green but so is some IPE I have.
It has a little reversing grain.
Thinning the herd a bit of my users which I've not really used much lately. First, I don’t have paypal or any other EFT gizmos, so payment in US Postal money order please, if I know you from the forum checks are ok; all prices are plus shipping and I’ll combine to get you the best rate. First Private Message (don’t use the chat, I’m old that that is hard to keep track of) with an unequivocal “I’ll take it” gets priority in line and I’ll respond to every PM promptly. Please put your name and shipping address in the PM so I can print shipping labels, this avoids a lot of back and forth. Many pics in this link to a Flickr album; items are described below in their order of appearance in the album. Flaws, if any, are noted and pointed out as apologies and prices asked reflect those apologies, however all tools are in working condition after sharpening (as needed).
First up are a collection of worthy vintage chisels (not just the '50s!) by vintage makers that are well known. 1 1/4 Buck Bros; 1" Butcher; 3/4" socket which is unmarked;1/2" Buck Bros and 3/8" Craftsman socket (likely made by Pexto for Sears back in the day). Most are pretty sharp, been sitting in my till for a while now, but all in good condition. Great value for someone looking for solid vintage steel that will hold an edge. Yours for the very reasonable price of $45 plus shipping. great value for someone. SOLD \ Next up is a set of carving gouges that I bought new perhaps 20 years ago when I thought I wanted to carve, but I'm not that much of an artist. Basically new old stock, very little use. Made in Germany by MHG Messerschmidt GmbH, google them, quality manufacturer. This was when they were dipping their toes in the US market and made carving chisels in imperial measurements. 1", 3/4", 5/8", 1/2", 3/8", 1/4 and 3/16th" in size. Super clean and very crisp, again, I bought them new and really never used them. Come in a roll I bought from Lee Valley. Nice set for someone who aspires to carve. Yours for $115 plus shipping. Great value here.
Last is a Disston tenon saw, another in my user till but it hasn't seen much use and time to pass it on to someone else; handle solid, chip in horn, medallion dates it to turn of the century. Plate straight, 12pt filed rip, sharpened by me (see pics for cuts), in great shape for a vintage 100+ year old saw. Take a look at the pics here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/9433588@N08/albums/72177720310126918Quality saw, has another 100 years of work in it. Can be yours for $50 plus shipping. SOLD
I have a vintage early71 open throated 71. It has Patented March 4 84 on the body. This one is highly collectable. The cutter has been sharpened quite a bit but still useable. It is by far the longest cutter I have ever seen. It is 8 inches long. I checked to see if Veritas cutters would work and they do. The easiest way to ship is priority mail for 16 dollars so I am asking $100 shipped.
I also have some moxon wise hardware for sell . Rods are 3/4 -6 threads 8 inches long includes 4 nuts and 4 thick flat washers. Wheels are 5 inches in diameter. Asking $116 shipped. Can get both for $200 shipped.
I have a new, in the box, Laguna Driftmaster Fence. I bought it planning on installing it on my 18 in bandsaw, but never did. I would like $375 plus shipping from 78070. Prefer USPS money order-will ship right away, but will accept check-will wait to ship until after check clears bank. Box has measurements and weights (30kg or 66 pounds) listed on end to allow you to compute shipping. Box has never been opened. It's sealed the way I received it. I might consider driving an hour or so to deliver. I'm approximately midway between San Antonio and Austin, TX. Time to get rid of stuff I'm not using.
This 12-inch compound miter saw's unique TwinLaser cut lines clearly indicate both sides of the blade kerf even when the blade's not running. Its 15 amp motor easily slices 4x6s and 2x8s, and an electric brake stops the blade in seconds. The simple cam-lock miter locking system and nine positive stops speed up angle changes, and its large bevel scale facilitates quick, easy tilt settings. The sliding fence adjusts for better support and is extra tall for handling large workpieces or for cutting crown moulding on edge instead of flat on the table. The large, easy-grip D-handle with wide trigger is positioned horizontally to reduce operator fatigue and provide better control. The rugged aluminum base has notches for sawhorse mounting and quick jobsite setup. A built-in arbor lock means easy, single-wrench blade changes, and the dust bag collects fine dust particles and woodchips. Two-year limited warranty on machines, parts, and! accessories.
The saw comes with a Rousseau 1000 mobile stand and dust hood:
The Rousseau Co. Model 1000 planer stand will make planing easy, safe and fast. Its features include a convenient working height of 36 inches and sturdy folding wings that provide 93 inches of overall stock support, for reduced snipe and easy handling of material. The generous 28-3/4 by 22-inch mounting platform is adjustable to accommodate a wide range of planers and four three-inch industrial casters lock firmly, anchoring the stand in place while in use, but they also glide effortlessly for convenient repositioning and storage. When not in use as a planer stand, the 1000 provides 10.8 square feet of additional worksurface
