  Smoke detector location ?
Posted by: goaliedad - 07-16-2024, 06:40 AM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (3)

R Clark’s post prompted this. I need to install smoke detectors in our house. I have avoided it as it has been an ongoing remodel and I was afraid that dust would cause issues. It is now time….
Single story, two bedrooms and bath on a hallway. Mechanical room is off the hall near the center of the house. Kitchen and living room are on the end of the hoff ur de opposite bedrooms. They are separated by a 12 inch beam.

Where do put the smoke detectors? These will be battery operated as I am not interested in wiring them due to a very low roofline and poor attic space

  Deck cleaner?
Posted by: goaliedad - 07-14-2024, 01:26 PM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (2)

I need to clean and seal our deck- a couple years old, I did not get it last year.
I plan on using Behr oil based deck stain.
Home Depot is my only good local source- any experience with Behr all on one deck and wood cleaner?

  Disc Sander speed
Posted by: tablesawtom - 07-14-2024, 09:09 AM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (8)

What is a good RPM for a 12 inch disc sander? I know a lot of sanders are direct drive to a motor. I have never checked but I assume they are of the 1725 RPN verity. I know that Shop Smith has a a variable speed system and there is a range in that system.

More information, I have a 9 inch disc sander attached to my 1 x42 belt sander and and one attached to my 4 x 36 sander And since they are attached directly to a motor, the rime speed would be a lot slower than the rime speed of a 12 inch disk. I also have a 12 inch that the disc is attach directly to the motor. It is reversible and I like that feature. But it is a pain to have to pull the entire table to change the paper ( cloth ) discs. Also for me the tables are very small and I find it hard to support larger pieces

I hadn't planned on posting this at the present, so I don't have the exact information but, I have a reversible motor off from an old Delta shaper. It is a small motor and I am guessing it is a 3450 motor 1 HP or smaller. I have a 2 inch pully on the shaft that supports the Discs and I am looking for an optional speed so I can get pullies for the build.

I can go to my machinery Hand Book to calculate the pully sizes I need.

But if someone knows the optional speed  and pully sizes it would be greatly appreciated.

My shaft is a precision ground 5/8 shaft and it fits the bearings perfectly but the Shop Smith discs I purchased will not go on , size for size doesn't work. I will take it to work tomorrow and emery paper the shaft diameter down so the disc will go on. Then I will post pictures of what I have to date and get the motor information also.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Tom

  DIY Garden Trailer
Posted by: MarkSLSmith - 07-13-2024, 03:06 PM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (7)

I've been shopping for a trailer to pull behind my lawn mower.  I haven't seen any new ones that seemed good to me; either they have a $150 delivery charge or reviewers post pictures of bent axles after loading 50% of rated capacity.  So I'm contemplating growing my own.

I recently scored some nice pillow blocks with 3/4 in bore.  If you were me, how would you go about adding an axle and wheels to utilize these pillow blocks?

The rest of the trailer build I can handle.

Thanks,
Mark

  Next Project?

Ok...bought a stash of Ash...andit is now sitting in my house, getting used to the place..

Some good ones, and some not so good ones...about 15 planks of 1 x 6 planks....

Behind the Couch in our living room...there is...a Wheelchair that the Boss USED to need...and not much else...Hmmmm..

Maybe a "Sofa Table" of some sorts?  I have at least 12" between the wall and the top of the couch, at the narrowest spot..then it widens out a bit...

Drawers?  Not really needed, and no room to open them, anyway.   Plain Stretchers near the bottom of the legs?  Not sure about a shelf..as this will be between the back of the couch and the wall...

Shaker Style, or...Mission Style?   Most of the tables in the house are of a Shaker STYLE....

Currently, the Single Brain Cell Sketch Up is working on some of these questions...

Stay tuned....

FS: MiniMax MM16 4.8HP, 16" Resaw Home Use - Massachusetts
Posted by: cymro - 07-11-2024, 12:55 PM - Forum: Tool Swap N' Sell - Replies (14)

I'm the original owner of this Minimax saw.

This has been a fantastic saw that I have used in my home shop since I bought it in December 2006 (delivered 2007). It’s the new style with 4.8HP, single-phase 220V with over 16” of resaw capacity.

Tires and euro guides are all in great shape
Mobility kit purchased when new (used to move around shop)

I have used it to cut bowl blanks, I have used it to resaw, I have even used it to cut large dovetails for a David Marks style bench and the cuts were dead-on (pics to show cut quality)

The last one that I found sold for $2300 after an ask of $2600 (on Offerup). The current (lowest delivered) price I could find for the SCM S440 (which is the current model name for this saw) is $5,685 plus tax (oak tree supply). I'm asking $1995

Saw is located in the Boston area in MA.

I will include a 1" Laguna Resaw king with the sale plus a couple of other blades.

Best to all
Edward

  SOLD: Strange wooden plane

I have no idea what this is. It has 3 fences, all of which look basically identical, a skew blade, and some sort of scoring blade? See pics. Best offer. Selling for my friend who's downsizing and has no idea what this is either. Pretty sure he bought it years ago cause he thought it was cool.
