Wood magazine had one a long time ago (1992). I built one, wasn't too happy with the Rockler tray hardware, but other wise it was fine. We still have that chair in our dining room (wife won't let it go). If you think you want to build that one I'm sure I still have the magazine and would be happy to loan it to you (I'll have to find it).
edit in: I did find that issue, if you want to borrow it pm your mailing address, I'll get it out quickly.

Really difficult to estimate without seeing any pics. You might want to do an "advanced" search at the famous auction site and check completed listings. That will give you an idea of what they're actually selling for.

I usually buy #1 when it comes to cherry but few sell it here. Most only carry cherry in fas and it's usually pretty boring looking though he #1 usually has a nice look and I like the small pin knots from time to time.
Local price on #1 cherry is 2.25 bf which is pretty good here. FAS is $4

Don't glue the top on until everything is fitted. The bottom panel gets glued first which is tricky to clamp due to the width. I think I glued the two vertical pieces that go on either side of the prospect box. Then I glued in all the horizontal pieces then the vertical pieces.
Hope this helps.

I can't help you with faking it but I might be able to sell you some ebony at a cheap price. What size are the beads?
