  Coffee Table Top Construction

I have no experience with rosewood, but I doubt you will have any unusual movement by gluing the two woods. The walnut will be fairly dark in a few years so I'm wondering will the rosewood have significant contrast?

Hi Sandra

I went to the site and only seen a vase.

I do not remember seeing you post here before so welcome and I know the guys will help you with how to post a picture.

There was someone here going to make me one and I sent him the parts but I just can not remember who.

  Steady rest for jet midi
Posted by: GaTurner - 10-28-2015, 04:50 PM - Forum: Woodturning - No Replies

I have a Jet midi and made a steady rest. Watched a few
you tube models. Turned out great, however, never thought
about the motor being right under the ways. The little piece
used to tighten the rest won't work due to brace and motor.
Has anyone made a steady rest for a midi and how to secure
it.

workbench project - a good oil finish?

I am currently working on my first real workbench. It will be solid oak, and I am thinking ahead. Applied a few drops of 100% pure Tung oil to a scrap and didn't like the outcome much. It darkened the wood more than expected, and I don't like that much. I do understand that the darkening effect happens, because it's an oil. But are there alternatives?
I don't want anything that puts a film on the surface.

Thanks in advance!

If you sweat on oak, it darkens. It can also leave dark marks on your hands, varies with body chemistry & pH.

  Rot Resistant Door
Posted by: Anthony W - 10-28-2015, 01:32 PM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (6)

Try to figure out why the old door rotted so quickly. A wood door should last longer than 10 years. Once you fix the problem install a new wood door.

If the door rotted this quick, the studs my be going too.

Using laminate flooring in a 3 season porch

I thought I saw somewhere a laminate floor type product that was ok to use in rooms that could get wet...like basements.

don't remember where I saw it though.

Replacing the "guts" of a load center
Posted by: dgman - 10-28-2015, 12:21 PM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (7)

if you are going to replace the guts with the guts of a new box just replace the entire box.

It is only a minor thing to kill the power at the new load center

Best finish for popping grain with minimal darkening
Posted by: cad - 10-28-2015, 12:07 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (6)

This is curly maple with Arm-R-Seal semi gloss:

GF's Clear Poly or HP Poly would work well, too, though they won't have quite the same impact as Arm-R-Seal. And blonde shellac would be a good choice, too, as would lacquer, depending upon the intended use.

Aren't drum sanders great? Being able to do some bulk sanding on something with good dust collection is a real help. Love the table too. I need to make something like this for my TS...
