Napa, take your old one down, and have them match it up to a knew one.

Substitute for Mineral Spirits in Socal?
Posted by: jussi - 11-13-2015, 12:26 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (10)

Looks like the name "Mineral Spirits" is disappearing. Paint Thinner is readily available in Orange County. Warning - read the reviews before purchasing the "Green" stuff.

Do what you plan to do, but plug the compressor in an extension cord with a switch attached to the cord.

Small portable bench-top band saw suggestions
Posted by: TDKPE - 11-13-2015, 09:20 AM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (4)

I’d look at a 14” Delta clone. The nice thing about bandsaws is that you can go up in capacity without a huge increase in footprint. A 14” Delta-style bandsaw doesn’t take up a whole lot of floor space, and if he had the space for a 10” bandsaw on a stand, then he has the space for a freestanding 14” bandsaw as well.

Can't wait to see where it goes. I always like your work.

That pic of the one slab, it's edges are very dark. Is that from fire? I do see the curl, is that the cause of the darkness? I've never noted Maple, Oak, Walnut or Cherry with curl to look darker on the edges. Just wondering.

Adding a second light fixture to an existing circuit
Posted by: Dusty Workshop - 11-13-2015, 07:46 AM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (2)

If there are only two switches, then you have a 50-50 shot at it being the one with the load conductors on it. Open it up and take a look at what's in there. Or open the bottom one. If it has just a 3-conductor cable into it, then you're in luck. Assuming you want the top one to tap into.

  The 6 joint box???
Posted by: Gregory of Sherwood Forest - 11-12-2015, 11:18 PM - Forum: Woodworking Hand Tools - Replies (4)

If your customer is a beginner, I would suggest making a regular dovetailed box or something like that. You get better at joinery with practice, and it’s better to do some repetition when you’re a beginner.

I remember my first dovetailed box. You could see how my dovetails got better as you turned the box around.

  olde mill cabinet shoppe plans
Posted by: jcousins - 11-12-2015, 11:07 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (2)

I have several plans from them, and can confirm that they are usable.
However, they are plans only. They do not give any details on how to build, what material sizes are necessary, etc. Some color pics of a finished piece and plans to make templates from.
For a wingback chair, I would start from the greene book on queen anne furniture, you would need to scale out the plans, but there is more info on how to put it together.

Nice work! Those two small pieces has me wondering for a few moments until they came together on the perch.
