I made this end grain cutting board and stand for my niece's wedding next weekend. It took a LOT longer than I expected to do the inlays, so it's a good thing I started early. No matter what I did the male portion for the lettering kept breaking out. I tried ebony, then bloodwood, I tried different speeds. Nothing worked. So I finally gave up and poured colored epoxy into those recesses. The Celtic marriage knot came out great with a bloodwood inlay, however.
The board is end grain walnut that I had to dye to mask the ugly sapwood. The field of the insert is quarter sawn beech, which is beautiful stuff to work with on the CNC. The stand is 5/8" Baltic birch that snaps together, so it can be broken down for storage or shipping.
I'm thinking of buying a mini table saw. Something with a table size of 9"x 12" would be fine. I plan to use it on craft projects that use wood that is only 1/2" thick. If you have one in mind please let me know. Thanks.
Does anyone have the specs or owners manual for a Powermatic 073 Dust Collector? Google searches have provided minimal results due to the age of the machine.
Inlay String Thicknesser - I may have taken it out of the box once or twice but it never saw any serious use so it's basically brand new. $40 shipped CONUS. - SOLD
Cabinet Scraper - as with the String Thicknesser, I may have used it once or twice but no heavy use so basically brand new. $45 shipped CONUS.
I have for sale a German made chairmaker's scorp. It is labelled Bracht, which was a mark of tools sold by Leichtung, likely in the 70’s or 80’s. According to online research I can find (caveat emptor) this company was bought out by the group that makes Two Cherries tools.
I purchased this from a local classifieds listing when I saw it in a picture of group of tools. The seller had no idea what it was and I didn’t want it to go to waste so picked it up along with a few other bits and bobs. If I didn’t already have one from blacksmith Lucian Avery, I would keep it.
This scorp is in the flattened-round style of the scorp that stick chairmaker Chris Schwarz prefers. You can read about it on his blog here. It had never been sharpened, so I put a hollow grind on the edge and honed it to razor sharp. Makes some pretty shavings as can be seen in the photos. The only apology is a knick (see pics) on the back side of the blade about 1/8” back from the cutting edge. So after making 40 or 50 chairs you might have to grind the edge back past the knick!
Asking $75 + shipping. A good alternative to the $300 and about a 3 month wait it takes to get one of the Lucian Averys. Payment via Paypal, Venmo, or Zelle is preferred. Local pickup in the greater Cincinatti area is also an option.
P.S. I’ve been on the forum for many years and have made a number of purchases, but this is my first time as a seller.
Veritas Flat Spokeshave measuring 10 1/2 inches side to side. This one is no longer listed on the Lee Valley website. Everything is original. It has some drawer rash on the handles, but nothing too deep. $50 Shipped CONUS.
2- Veritas scraper holders. $20 each shipped CONUS
Looks like there was a crack on the handle that was repaired. There is also a chip on the blade, which is a Stanley blade. There is a number stamped into the side.
