i have been researching a Digital Read Out (DRO) for my DeWalt 735 planer. I know that this has been discussed on this forum in 2020 but I thought that both Wixey and iGaging might have made improvements to these DRO’s.

Wixey and iGaging both make a DRO for the 735. They also make DRO’s with remote digital displays for stationary planers that possibly could be adapted to the 735.

I would appreciate hearing from woodworkers that use either the Wixey or the iGaging DRO’s or others that I am not familiar with on your 735 planer. Why did you pick the DRO and are you happy with your choice. I am interested in your experience with accuracy, battery life, etc.

Making a bowl for my good friend Sean who runs ‪Lepp Aviation. The segment bowl is made from Poplar with an Alumilite clear cast resin inlay of his logo which was cut on the FoxAlien 4040 XE-PRO.

Glen Drake Joinery Saw: this saw has no teeth on the first and last few inches of the saw plate. I believe the saw plate is reversible. In excellent condition: does not seem to have had much use at all: very sharp.

Bad Axe 14” Bayonet Precision Carcase Saw Crosscut


An impressive precision carcase saw filed 14 ppi crosscut and equipped with a thin gauge .018” saw plate. This particular custom saw is outfitted with a black oxide saw back, nickel fasteners, and a cherry (or possibly maple) handle. This saw has seen very light hobby use and looks and performs as new. Note: when sighting down the tooth line, there is one tooth that seems to stand out (optically, not physically) my guess is it had more or less aggressive sharpening at the factory. No impact to performance: I just don't want anyone to be surprised. Currently 6-8 week lead time for these from Bad Axe.

Items are described in order of appearance in the album.

First up is a T16 pre war #3; only apology is a chip in the cheek in the front of the plane, no effect on use, but its an apology. Rosewood furniture is solid, plenty of iron (I reset the bevel at 25 deg, ready for honing), no cracks in the metal, overall very nice plane. Will make an excellent smoother for someone. Yours for $50 plus shipping.

Next is a pair of skew chisels, vintage but not marked, I skewed these many years ago and were my users until I found others, one is 3/4" the other 5/8". Good steel, holds an edge. Take the pair for $20 plus shipping.

Nest is a Disston No 9, 27", 5pt filed rip. Saw is sharped, but apology is that there is a horn repair, done well, and two chipped teeth, look at these pics and you'll see they area chip of the tip; again, should not affect use and in the next sharpening they will come out. Next is a Disston D8; 26", 8pt, freshly sharpened and set, plate straight and has a nice ring to it, handle is solid with no cracks. See pics with test cuts into cherry in the album. Only apology is there is a round rust stain on the plate, but I polished the plate and its smooth, so more of a stain than pitting, and its way up on the plate. No big deal. This is a fine saw and will make you a good user for many years. Yours for $55 plus shipping.

You can have both saws for $110 plus shipping; great value over new, and these are better than new production.

Last but not at all least is an english Stanley #90 bullnose; 100% nickling, full iron, very little use at all, it all works as it should. Zero apologies, its an excellent plane in excellent condition. Yours for $65 plus shipping, a very reasonable price so it can go to a good home.

"Amphitrite's Bowl"

The turned bowl is partly segmented Walnut and the main body is Teak, after turning the rim was hand carved with a scalloped edge, it finished at 15" D x 4" Tall. I added a base that was first turned then cut apart and reassembled and carved to look like waves. I added two Dolphins and three Seahorses carved from highly figured Walnut. The final finish is Deft sanding sealer and a hand buffed Bees wax coat. The pieces final dimension is 15" D x 12" T

This 13in bowl is made from 300 Purpleheart and Curly Maple segments in a pattern replicating a Trillium Flower.

I made this cherry flag case for the relative of a friend to honor a family veteran. The case is 26 x 17 and uses simple mitered corners and slip tenons (I think) to reinforce the corners of the removeable front. The finish was 5 wiped on coats of Waterlox OSF, and it could have used several more as that stuff is very thin, followed by rubbing the outside with brass wool to get a satin sheen. I must say, though, Waterlox looks great on cherry.





The front attaches to the case with dowel locators and magnets set into both the case and front. My CNC made that much easier than if I had had to do that by hand.



The glass shop used every bit of the overage tolerance allowed. It is a very close fit. The edges are seamed to avoid getting cut when handling the glass. As you can see, there are keyholes in the back so the case can be hung vertically or horizontally. The inner partition will be covered with whatever cloth the owner wants.
