I don't know what's going to be better, the actual legal fight or all the sh--slinging that's going to take place on woodworking forums.

  Anyone recognize this saw?

Can you read the medallions at all? and maybe some tinfoil and polish where the etch might be would shed some light. I think you can polish that and get some kind of etch to show. it'll take a while and you'll get some exercise but I think it'll do the trick.

  Air compressor set up
Posted by: Steve N - 07-15-2015, 05:03 PM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (6)

I use a Camair desiccant air dryer/filter, I Tee off just before the dryer for shop air and have shut a off valve before the dryer plus another regulator (in addition to the one on the compressor) after the dryer. Works well and the filter elements are not that expensive, I usually need to replace it about once a year.

No photos but there it is.

  Rockler/Wood Mag Sewing Center
Posted by: skipwill - 07-15-2015, 02:06 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (5)

I built one a few years ago and the only changes I made were to add the drop down shelf in the back. It is about 18" wide and the full length of the base. I used a locking hinge at both ends of the shelf. I also added ball rollers so it could be moved around. I'm not sure if the plan called for them or not but I remember I had to make a modification late in the game at my late wife's request. The opening is very narrow so some modification could be in order there. Otherwise it was pretty much to plan. dd

Light bulb life incandescent vs LED
Posted by: Cooler - 07-15-2015, 08:41 AM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (34)

My kitchen light fixture has three 60 watt bulbs on a dimmer. The dimmer switch has a dim function and a separate switch for on/off. At night I leave the lights at the dimmest level as a night light. It is probably equivalent to 8 or 10 watts per bulb. The bulbs are on 24/7 either on dim or bright. They last about 3 years like that--about 25,000 hours.

I also have a red bulb 15 watt in a night light in my bedroom. On its lowest setting it puts out about 4 watts of light. That bulb has never been changed and runs 24/7 for about 18 years.

Question:

Clearly using bulbs at a lower light level improves the life of the bulb. The filament does not get as hot and there is not hot/cold changes. I am planning on replacing the kitchen bulbs with LEDs. LEDs have a rated life of 25,000 hours and can be dimmed also.

So will the LEDs used as I do in my kitchen fixture have just the rated 25,000 hours (about what I get with incandescent bulbs) or will they similarly get extended life because I am using them mostly in the dimmed condition?

If there is no improved life then using the expensive LED bulbs does not make any sense to me.

Real shellac . While all current finishes are non-toxic when cured; that is not the same as safe for human consumption! Shellac is.
