WTB or trade: FWW No. 260
Posted by: dov tayles - 06-11-2023, 06:21 AM - Forum: Tool Swap N' Sell - Replies (5)

I can't find my issue of Fine Woodworking No. 260. My set from No. 1 to present is otherwise complete, and this is driving me nuts. I have extras of No. 245-249, and 256-258, which I could trade in exchange, or if you prefer cash, please let me know your price. [I know I can read them online, but I am old - and old school].

Thanks in advance.

  Checking the Heat Pump
Posted by: Petertaylor - 06-10-2023, 07:43 AM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (6)

Our York system works fine—heat pump in summer and LP gas in winter. Knowing that auto AC systems can get low on refrigerant, I wondered if that happens on household systems. I called the installer who put it in 10 years ago and asked him to check it out.  I expected him to hook up some gauges and read hi/Lo pressures.

He said we don’t do it that way anymore. He went to the furnace in basement. With the system calling for COOL, he measured the air temp on both sides. “Twenty degree difference, that’s as good as it gets. Your system is fine.”

I only post this because I found it interesting to see how he confirmed it is okay.

Hi Banditt,

Could you tell us about your grinder setup? Is that a small DC/vac in the pic?

Question Festool ETS EC 150/3 EQ 6" Sander
Posted by: iclark - 06-09-2023, 10:42 PM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (19)

I won a Festool ETS EC 150/3 EQ 6" Sander w/Systainer in the fundraiser raffle on another forum. In case, there is anyone here from that forum, please know up front that I am very appreciative.

That said, this is my first Festool item and I am in a bit of a sticker shock for accessories.

I already have dust collectors and shop vacs. So, I am not feeling a need to spend $400-$800 for a Festool brand DC.

The idea of spending $400 for a dust collector hose with power cord for the sander absolutely blows my mind. Bare DC hoses with Festool branding seem to start around $150 for short ones.

It looks like there are adapters that will allow me to use reasonably-priced 3rd-party dust collector hoses, but I keep getting confused trying to figure out which ones go where or for which tool.

I haven't unboxed the sander yet to find out if they use a proprietary connector on their power cords or not.

Can someone with Festool experience (especially with the ETS EC 150/3(or5) EQ 6" sanders) educate me about good quality 3rd-party accessories and which ones I want so I can make good use of the sander? Knowing which brands to avoid would be useful as well.

thanks in advance

Posted by: ®smpr_fi_mac® - 06-09-2023, 06:03 PM - Forum: Woodworking Power Tools - Replies (19)

I can find lots of 4" bits (too short) and lots of 5" bits (too long) but cannot find a 4-1/2" or a 4-3/4" bit.

Can anybody help?
