Looking for Reasonably Priced Garage Door Repair - Marilynchildress - 08-08-2025 I’m looking for recommendations for a reliable and reasonably priced garage door repair in Mesa, AZ area. My garage door needs a new hinge, rollers, and bearings. If you’ve had a good experience with a local company or independent technician who didn’t overcharge, I’d really appreciate your suggestions! Thanks RE: Looking for Reasonably Priced Garage Door Repair - Snipe Hunter - 08-09-2025 A hinge is easy to replace and likely a replacement is available at home depot. I am self employed so "reasonably priced" is in the eye of the beholder. Reasonable for the customer or reasonable for the repairman? Remember, you are not just paying for the 10 minutes it takes to replace it and the hinge, you are paying the repairman not to take on a bigger, more profitable job, his travel time and all the jobs he screwed up in the past and the knowledge he's gained to learn how to do yours right. I turned down a 1 hour job for tomorrow. I quoted $425.00. The potential client thought that was high for an hour. 3 hour round trip, 1 hour on site, another hour writing a report. So a total of 5 hours, not including the time I spent on the phone with him and the emails. That comes to $85 an hour, less expenses and overhead of about 15%. So $72 an hour. It's hard to run a business on $72 an hour. I didn't even mention paying business taxes. I have to keep this documentation for 7 years. I pay for liability insurance, my truck, it's insurance, an office, electricity for my office, gas for the truck, insurance for the truck, continuing education, health care, tools etc etc etc. That all takes a big chunk out of my earnings. Maybe the garage door repairman isn't over charging. |
