I got this from Norm Abram so it is not mine. He said build for the misses and get the items out of the shop and into the house. Believe it or not my wife takes great pride in showing different pieces I have made to people who happen to stop by. Build stuff she wants as well as what you want to build and all you will only have to say, I could really use whatever and she will find the money for it. My wife also takes great pride in my shop and likes showing it off.
Believe me, put her first and she will find the money.

I've checked with the CEO a couple of times when I wanted to buy something, to make sure we could afford it, but never had to justify why I wanted to buy it. The new kitchen and bathrooms I built, plus most of the cabinets and furniture, have justified what I spent on the machines and tools to build them a dozen times over. Now she just rolls her eyes when I tell her I plan to buy such and such. And I think she actually enjoyed the road trip we took to pick up the used RAS I bought earlier this year. We spent more on the hotel and dinner on that trip than I did for the saw. She was more than OK with that.
So, yeah, Tom, make stuff your partner values and the money will be there when you need something.

Yes, John, I know. She once asked me what I was going to buy next and I replied I didn't really need anything and I had no plans. she just shock her head and chuckled. We have been in discussion for a while but we are meeting with a contractor next week about building a new wood shop. My old one got destroyed, Long story. All my equipment is in two storage sheds. She decided where it is going. She is giving up her flower garden, and moving her garden shed. She says she is to old to take care of that much garden anymore. I know better, but it is about the only place we have to put a 24 x 30 shop.
We found the money and she found the space. I am just saying it again make her part of the money will be there.
