Something for a July Project? - bandit571 - 06-26-2025

Now that the Project for June has been completed....
[attachment=55032]
And serving a purpose...the towel is to protect the finish from the hard plastic wheels that the A/C Unit rolls around on...
[attachment=55033]
Also hides the fact there IS a drawer there...

Anyway...I still have about 10' of 1 x 6 Soft Maple leftover...and..these 3 planks of Ash..
[attachment=55034]
Yes, there are 3 planks/slabs sitting there...
[attachment=55035]
Appears to be Bandsaw Milled from the same section of a log...one right after another...
[attachment=55036]
Even the knot lines up...Slab #3 is a wee bit better...
[attachment=55037]
However, I do NOT do Live Edge work...so, I might be removing the bark parts...maybe trim the ends a bit..
[attachment=55038]
And see about working with Flat Sawn Lumber...
[attachment=55039]
Cathedrals?

Stay tuned...

Need to clean off the top of me Bench...need to start working these 3 planks down to something I can work with...as I do NOT do Live Edge Pieces..

So, maybe a clipped end..
[attachment=55048]
Or 3?   Lay out some parallel lines along the edges..ditch the 2 LARGE knots....

These are flat sawn..normal for me is quarter sawn Ash....will see how this stuff does...
Stay tuned...

I'll be watching. Are you planning something with doors to highlight those features?

RE: Something for a July Project? - bandit571 - 06-29-2025

The Boss has been threatening to toss out the roll top Bread Box....as all it does is jam up...

So...keeping the same "footprint", will be building a single hinged door on a new Bread Box...With a hinge lid.

Should be enough in the stash of Ash to  build one....

Stay tuned..

From those 3 planks....
[attachment=55065]
A single 3/4" x 6 plank...and..
[attachment=55066]
A stack of 1 x 2s...and..
[attachment=55067]
A Stack of 1 x 4s....

Straightedge to draw a few lines...then
[attachment=55068]
Needed one edge to run against the rip fence..
[attachment=55069]
Bandsaw has trouble cutting a perfectly straight line...but a Stanley No. 6c can smooth out any bumps..

Resaws have been made....maybe tomorrow, I can start gluing up a few panels?
Stay tuned.....

Sounds like a worthy project. You want your bread jammed up, not the bread box.
Big Grin

We have one like you describe but the wife does not use it for bread storage. It turned into vitamin storage.

Along the top of our bread box ( with 3 loaves inside) is the bottles of pills I take every morning...

Boss even indicated which way the lid opens....
Stay tuned...

Just measured to old box up...need the following panels made.
2 sides @ 3/4" x 9" (H) x 13" long/wide

1 Back panel @ 3/4" x 9" (H) x 17" wide/long
1Bottom panel @ 3/4" x 13" x 17"

A panel for the top @ 3/4" x 8" x 17"

Panel for the door?  TBD...
