Value of Disston No 12 - Bencuri - 05-23-2025 I have an old saw collection, that includes the Disston No 12 that you can see on the attached photos. It is in pretty good condition, cuts perfectly straight. The only defect is that a small chip is missing from one of the horns on the handle. I wonder how much this saw worths recently? I have purchased it decades ago, back then it was not very expensive. Recently when I checked the saw stock on ebay, I saw some pretty suprising numbers for this saw. Also, research the date on the Disstonian Institute website (medallion and bolt pattern will reveal this). The website won't provide a value, but that will give you an idea of the age to assess value. Hard to see for sure., but it looks like a No. 12 and not a D-12, so that would be an earlier model. Lots of blade left also. Looks like yours is from 1896-1917 era. Nice find. My guess is somewhere between $80-120. The damaged horn will take some off the value. You can restore some of the etch using gun bluing fluid. Apply the fluid, let it sit a bit, then wipe off and very lightly sand with fine grit sandpaper. I also have a No. 12 I got from an antique store where the guy mostly sold horse tack and carriage stuff. He had a barn full of tools and they were cheap. I think I paid $3 for mine. Definitely worth more than that. Mine cuts like butter and was well-maintained by the owner. As Disston usually left the 5th bolt off of their shorter saws... Not it is full size. I sometimes work with it but in case it is in the 400$ dollar range I'd prefer to keep it for display. For 80$ it remains in my "toolbox". |
