GFCI (keeps on going) - EightFingers - 05-19-2025 I need to replace the receptacle under the kitchen sink. The outlet there has been divided into a switch section for a disposal and a non switched section for whatever. I see code now requires a GFCI in that location. Before I buy one, I’d like to know if there’s a special type, or can regular one be used where one section is switched and the other is continuous? With a regular outlet all you have to do is break the hot connection on the out and keep the neutral tied. RE: GFCI (keeps on going) - MstrCarpenter - 05-19-2025 I don't recall ever seeing one to do what you need; there's two terminals for line, and two for load to protect additional outlets, + Gnd. Could this work https://www.gordonelectricsupply.com/p/Raco-187-4Sq-1-1-2D-Box-1-2-Ko/6030820?utm_source=google&utm_medium=shopping&utm_campaign=raco-shopping-pla-alone&utm_content=138181123884&utm_term=&category=g&creative=596975652222&audience=old-campaign&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=15176132576&gbraid=0AAAAAD8Z3WFgKj_xLchBb4PvTlbCw9Qx4&gclid=CjwKCAjwravBBhBjEiwAIr30VEsGYipUXeT2XKG9yMI3MuQpAbIqreV6t2wa4HB327758B9zrP5d1xoClh8QAvD_BwE with this cover https://www.grainger.com/product/2DDC7?gucid=N:N:PS:Paid:GGL:CSM-2295:Y8ZQJW:20500801:APZ_1&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21375667808&gclid=CjwKCAjwravBBhBjEiwAIr30VJtsRv6yZ2WUJrSRDvq6VPB2jln9dYSJqT2LwFISBm8DwIVPwtiDERoCmMsQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds Obviously these are not the only suppliers, they're just the first ones google found. The big box stores have extensions, not sure about the single to double though. You could put a 4" single and a 4" double metal cover plate on a 4" metal box extension. those are available at the big boxes. RE: GFCI (keeps on going) - EightFingers - 05-19-2025 Problem is it’s a single hang box, I’d have to tear out that and put the double in. Not sure there s enough room for one. RE: GFCI (keeps on going) - joe1086 - 05-20-2025 Hey EF, take a look at MasterCarpenter's link again. It's a surface mount two gang atop the existing box. RE: GFCI (keeps on going) - EightFingers - 05-20-2025 OK, that will work RE: GFCI (keeps on going) - crokett™ - 05-20-2025 here's a combo GFI and switch: https://www.amazon.com/Leviton-SmartlockPro-Combination-Tamper-Resistant-Receptacle/dp/B017KUEWCO/ref=asc_df_B017KUEWCO?mcid=a7ee7b833bd33c5da0f1fc207462f3d6&tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693689914505&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15631575442807007775&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9009746&hvtargid=pla-315554237705&psc=1&hvocijid=15631575442807007775-B017KUEWCO-&hvexpln=0 RE: GFCI (keeps on going) - blackhat - 05-20-2025 Why not use a standard GFCI receptacle and switch the whole thing? Have you ever used the other half of the receptacle? I’ve never used that extra outlet in my life and I’ve been under a few sinks RE: GFCI (keeps on going) - MstrCarpenter - 05-20-2025 The other half is to power the motion sense faucet. I love mine. Or is yours motorized :-) (gfci used to have problems handling motor loads) -Mark |
