A burl set - RonB1957 - 03-02-2025 Well, I finally got around to finishing this burl set cut from the same infused maple burl. Only had enough for these two saws. 12" Triple dovetail and half back with white mother of pearl inlaid saw bolts. I decided to go with the white MOP instead of the Golden MOP just because. Couldn't really decide, but the white does stand out more. Should I go back to the Golden MOP? The problem with "one off" saws is they can't be duplicated if I screw up. I got lucky with these two. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A saw is a saw, is a saw. Until you screw on up and it is no longer a saw. ![]() RE: A burl set - Mainelywoodworking - 03-03-2025 The White MOP is a very nice touch, but I prefer the Golden MOP vs the White MOP only because in some of the photos the smaller ones appear to be a different colour than the larger one. The last photo with both saws is a perfect example. All three on the half back look the same, which looks great, but on the dovetail saw the smaller one appears much brighter, which makes it “stick out” too much for my tastes. I personally prefer all brass, but I’m glad you still call these fine works of art, saws. PS Does adding MOP now make them jewellery? ? RE: A burl set - stav - 03-03-2025 Those are fabulous saws. I'm on the fence about the MOP. I looked at some of the other saws you posted and still can't decide. Neither color would be a deal breaker for me if I were purchasing. Interesting thought. The MOP reflect the light differently in the camera shots. In person they all look about the same. Perhaps I will pop the Golden MOP saw bolts in and call it a day. They are definitely not jewellery, but it does add a bit of time to making the saws. When I sell saws like these I generally include an extra set of saw bolts in just the brass, in case someone decides they prefer the brass. RE: A burl set - Pedder - 03-31-2025 Hi Ron, wonderful saws! Taking pictures of saws ist not easy. Easiest is a outdoor picture, when the sky is cloudy. I loke my mostly white livingroom on a sunny day, too. indirect light. (Don't know how to translate that better) At some point in the past I bought a photo tentn, but it is to much effort and takes too much place in my small shop. I try to do that but it does not always work out so well with a southern sun and a southern back deck. Like you, the tent took up to much space or time to set up. I did ultimately switch to the golden MOP. RE: A burl set - Arlin Eastman - 05-19-2025 (03-03-2025, 11:02 AM)stav Wrote: Those are fabulous saws. What he said. Well done buddy. When I can find all the crotches of all the walnut trees cut down on our land I will send you several of them to help you. |
