'Nother Shower Valve - crokett™ - 02-06-2025 this one is in the upstairs bathroom. Combination tube and shower so has a diverter. When you try to divert water to the shower, the valve is only half closing, so water still comes out the tub spout. I think the valve needs to ber replaced. I tried calling Kohler twice, there was a 15 minute hold both times. I have a vague memory of replacing o rings or something in in this shower a few years ago. So, replace just the valve or replace the entire valve body, fixture, etc? If I replace everything I assume I will have to go in through the wall on the other side again? RE: 'Nother Shower Valve - EightFingers - 02-06-2025 Those spouts slip over a stub out from the wall. You should be able to either: unscrew it by twisting ccw or by removing a set screw. You shouldn’t have to go through the wall to replace that spout. RE: 'Nother Shower Valve - Roly - 02-06-2025 (02-06-2025, 10:23 AM)crokett™ Wrote: this one is in the upstairs bathroom. If this diverter is mounted on the valve and not on the spout I would call Kohler again and wait the 15 minutes to get the correct parts and replace them and see if they will give you a kit for the main valve also while you are into it. I think they have lifetime warranty on it. It will be far faster than replacing the whole thing. Roly RE: 'Nother Shower Valve - MstrCarpenter - 02-06-2025 If I recall correctly, there's a video or web page to assist in determining what model valve you have by the attachment method and color of the adapter used to attach handle to the stem. Might be worth looking for while you're on hold. RE: 'Nother Shower Valve - crokett™ - 02-06-2025 (02-06-2025, 01:47 PM)EightFingers Wrote: Those spouts slip over a stub out from the wall. I am wondering about replacing the entire valve body, as I did on the shower in the master a couple months ago. But maybe Kohler is the only one that can answer that. RE: 'Nother Shower Valve - EightFingers - 02-06-2025 Oops, sorry I missed that. Wouldn’t you just have to replace the cartridge in the valve body? Be sure to remove the locking clip before trying to pull the cartridge. Don’t throw it away in case you need it for the new cartridge. But maybe Kohler is the only one that can answer that. The valve body is just a hunk of brass that can be easily cleaned with some C.L.R.. The cartridge and its O-rings do all the work. I actually like the older versions without the anti scald feature. More specifically, ones with in/out volume control and rotate left/right for temp.. RE: 'Nother Shower Valve - crokett™ - 02-07-2025 I called kohler. hold time was only 7 minutes. it turns out it's not the valve it's the spout and I am annoyed I didn't think of that. when you pull up on the little handle on the spout all it does is seal the mouth of the spout off. in this case the seal is bad so it's leaking. they are sending a new spout. it's on back order, and may not get here until after my kids are home from spring break but since they didn't bother mentioning this to me until 2 weeks ago (I don't use that bathroom) and it apparently started back before Christmas, I don't feel bad for them. RE: 'Nother Shower Valve - EightFingers - 02-07-2025 Hmmmmmmmm RE: 'Nother Shower Valve - crokett™ - 02-07-2025 (02-07-2025, 02:18 PM)EightFingers Wrote: Hmmmmmmmm While I was on the phone with them, I went and looked up into the spout and there is a seal under there. It was a little loose when I pulled the handle all the way up, so I am inclined to agree. |
