couple of saws - RonB1957 - 01-22-2025 I haven't posted for a while as I have been busy working on this run down circa 80s shack I live in. Taking a short break and decided to get to a couple of saws that have been hiding in a drawer as well as making a couple of saws for my last customer that has been quite patient waiting for me to make him a saw or two. If I can remember how to post this stuff I will give it a whirl. First up is a triple loop dovetail saw in resin infused birds eye maple burl. 12" x 2" canted x 0.020" at 18 ppi. ![]() ![]() ![]() 2nd up is a 12" carcass saw from the same piece of wood. 12" x 3" x 0.025" 14ppi x 15* rake x 25 fleam. I made a mistake rasping and had to make the front bolt head 1/16" smaller than normal to save it. ![]() ![]() Not the best pics in the world but you get the idea. These are all from maple burls I infused a few years ago, that were sitting on a shelf patiently waiting. These will be my personal saws,( among many ) ![]() RE: couple of saws - stav - 01-23-2025 A very nice set of saws. RE: couple of saws - FrankAtl - 01-23-2025 Those are beautiful! The resin infused burl looks great. RE: couple of saws - grwold - 01-23-2025 They look really nice, Ron. The burl, esp. on the dovetail saw, looks almost disorienting in the pictures. Thanks for sharing! RE: couple of saws - AHill - 01-23-2025 Those handles are to die for. Excellent craftsmanship. Keep warm! RE: couple of saws - Tapper - 01-23-2025 Beautiful work, AKA "Functional Art!." Burl looks great - could you give us a thumbnail on the infusion process, please? Thanks, Doug RE: couple of saws - RonB1957 - 01-23-2025 (01-23-2025, 08:36 AM)Tapper Wrote: Beautiful work, AKA "Functional Art!." I lost all my files a couple of months ago when something killed my computer, monitor, and literally wiped my hard drives. A very bizarre event. So now I am "rebuilding" my system, software and all. Ouch! about the computer issue. Once you get things rebuilt, I highly recommend getting an external drive or 2 that you only connect when you are backing up your computer files. Your efforts and pics are way too nice to lose again. The saws and handles are beautiful. <words are so poor to capture their beauty> When you get the chance, a thread on how you did the infusion would be appreciated by many of us. |
