FS: DeWalt 788 jaws - H.O.P.S. - 01-22-2025

I upgraded my DW 788 scroll saw jaws with the Pegasus set. There's nothing wrong with these - I just wanted the quick release lever.

$15 plus shipping sound reasonable?

What do you think of the Pegasus jaws? I find the original DeWalt clamps a pain when relacing blades. I knew there were alternate style clamps available and am interested in more information.

Where did you get your Pegasus clamps? Cost? Do they make installing new blades easier to place properly?  Are you happy with them?.

Thanks for your comments.

I purchased the upgrade jaws from Bear Woods website. They show $99 pay to play right now - I don’t recall paying anywhere near that though (several years ago.) They weren’t “cheap” but not anywhere what they’re going for now.
That said, I *love* the upgrade! So much faster and WAY less monkeying around to get proper tension.

I got em for my Excalibur about 10 or so years ago. I am certain I didn't pay near that amount. the upgrade was well worth it.

I don't have Pegas clamps on my saw, but I'm fairly familiar with them.  I think the biggest advantage (besides the quick release tension lever) is that they are made for solid, machined aluminum, rather than pot metal.  The pot metal clamp bodies are much more prone to spreading when you apply too much force to the thumbscrew.  This is a common problem.  When the blade slips out of the clamp, many folks resort to cranking down on the thumbscrew, rather than employ a few of the alternative techniques.  Over time, more force only worsens the problem and hastens the failure of the clamps.  The solid aluminum clamp bodies will hold up better to this stress.  Also, the thumbscrew threads will eventually strip out of the pot metal bodies much faster than the aluminum.

Otherwise, the Pegas clamps use the same method of holding the blade in place, pinching it between the faces of a thumbscrew and a setscrew, as the Dewalt, Excalibur, Jet, Seyco and a number of other brands of scroll saws.
