Here's how I spent my day off...(pic heavy) - JokerRN - 12-28-2015 Found some random material on a CL ad last week for a guy that was liquidating his cabinet shop and went to visit just to have a look and maybe pick up a few odds and ends. The owner was a very nice dude and we ended up chatting for a while and he showed me some of his more interesting pieces. Turns out he needed to be out of the space this month and was motivated to get the material sold. Well, a week later, he made me an offer I couldn't refuse and I bought the whole dadgummed thing. Moved it all today by myself (not bragging...it was a really dumb move). Here's most of the haul: ![]() I was most interested in the sheet goods as I have been doing some (and anticipate more) built-in projects. The moldings he had obviously fit right in that as well. Almost all Mahogany and Cherry. Here are the highlights... About 100bf of Mahogany lumber split evenly between 3.5" and 7" widths, all 3/4" thick and 12 ft long: ![]() Another 10bf in (2) 1.5" x 8" boards: ![]() About 120 linear feet of Mahogany crown molding (mostly 8012, I think): ![]() 40 linear feet of the biggest crown I've ever seen. This stuff is about 7" across and beautiful, although I can't even imagine what I would ever use it for: ![]() 2 really nice 15/16" x 7" x 14' Cherry boards (I know what I'm going to do with this one, so I cut it down to make it easier to haul) and a bunch (few hundred linear feet) of cherry crown, base, and panel moldings: ![]() Sheet goods - 9 sheets of 3/4" Mahogany ply, a couple of the same in Cherry ply, more 1/4" Mahogany and Cherry ply than I can count, 8 full sheets of Mahogany veneer, a 4' x 12' sheet of Cherry veneer, couple sheets of bamboo ply, 3 sheets of bendy ply, a bunch of random sheets: ![]() Drawer boxes - 8 maple boxes, 5 walnut, and 4 small oak boxes, all dovetailed and cut out for undermount slides (also pictured is about 40bf of Ipe I am going to use for some outdoor furniture my wife is on me about): ![]() And finally, whatever these were going to be (they are now destined to become the legs of my new outfeed table): ![]() I won't continue to brag with the what I paid (in case I was wrong and got taken...), but I feel like we both did well. I got some really nice material for what seemed like a great price and he got rid of everything at once instead of selling a piece here and a piece there. Tomorrow's activity is to start working on the storage solutions for this stuff. And to repair the damage done to my marriage... Interested in your thoughts and anyone's educated guess as to what this stuff is worth. Re: Here's how I spent my day off...(pic heavy) - fredhargis - 12-29-2015 Dang, looks like you did good. That big crown is impressive. Re: Here's how I spent my day off...(pic heavy) - chips ahoy - 12-29-2015 Hope you realize but you have just wo the end of the year, you suck, award. Congrats. Mel Re: Here's how I spent my day off...(pic heavy) - Gary G™ - 12-29-2015 The cost to value ratio might help repair the marriage issue: but that's a lot of material to store. The crown will make some nice wraparound mitered boxes. [/blockquote] Cut miters from the back at 45 degrees so the faces are continuous around the sides of the box. Re: Here's how I spent my day off...(pic heavy) - FrankAtl - 12-29-2015 Let me know about the "repair to the marriage" thing. I need some new lies! Looks like a nice haul. Frank Re: Here's how I spent my day off...(pic heavy) - AHill - 12-29-2015 Not knowing what you paid for it, we can't definitively say you suck, but that's an amazing haul of lumber! The posts look like they were destined to be end posts on a cabinet or kitchen island. Re: Here's how I spent my day off...(pic heavy) - Steve N - 12-29-2015 Where ya gonna park the cars ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Made for a bigger pile than I thought it would. You have to build something for Mama now. Ya done good ![]() |
