Making your "savings" a lot less than 5,200.

I would certainly not try to put a price/value judgement on your time or enjoyment of pursuing a hobby.   I am just finding hard to understand your math.

Oh I think I see where the misunderstanding is and I don't mean to come across as ignoring or mitigating my material cost or time.
I'm guesstimating the outsourcing cost to be in the neighborhood of $9-10k. The difference, therefore, between my material cost and outsourcing being $5,200.

They really do some nice stuff with that, much nicer than, say, 30 years ago. I lost, someone in the house seemed to believe that only quartz or granite (or solid surface) is worth having. Meanwhile all the other other countertops in the house (utility room, baths, etc. ) are HPL

We did solid surface countertops. SWMBO found a source and after a little studying and reading it worked out pretty well. There is a company that sells overstock and discontinued solid surface sheets from different manufacturers. www.solidsurface.com.  DuPont used to have their fabrication manual online, I don't see it now at my bookmark. It looks like they've replaced the manual with a series of bulletins. https://www.corian.com/-documentation-#-fabrication-bulletins-
